Some in the media can't help themselves.

Even when they should be just reporting the facts, they still seem to be searching for a TDS spin on anything regarding President Donald Trump.

NY Times podcast host Lulu Garcia-Navarro interviewed NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and seemed to keep pressing to get an anti-Trump take from Rutte. But Rutte wasn't going for it. Instead, he explained how Trump managed to achieve what had never been done before — actually making the Europeans pony up 5 percent for their defense, even more than what Trump achieved in his first term.

He said it had been an enormous irritant with American presidents that Europeans were not paying enough, "and I think they're completely right." Trump has a 'big point" and "luckily, last week in The Hague, we solved that."

Trump was the only one willing to push the point, and he got it done. It benefits America, making NATO stronger, and the Europeans more responsible for their defense.

Garcia-Navarro kept pushing criticisms, and Rutte leveled her.

"Let's face what is happening: There were 7 or 8 countries in Europe not at 2 percent. So now it’s 5 percent — a new benchmark."

"Do we really think that we would have been able last week in The Hague to agree to that 5 percent if Trump would not have been reelected as President of the United States?"

"So I think when somebody deserves praise, that praise should be given. And President Trump deserves all the praise."

"Because without his leadership, without him being reelected President of the United States, the 2 percent this year and the 5 percent in 2035 — we would never, ever, ever have been able to achieve agreement on this."

She kept pressing, asking if he did it to "pacify Trump's ego," which is a dumb question when Trump is doing what is in the best interests of the country. She sounds upset that Trump succeeded in getting a better deal for the U.S. while making NATO more secure.

Rutte looked at her like she had three heads and said he didn't care about criticism, he had to do his job, that he had to "keep the whole of NATO together and the biggest ally is the United States." He said the U.S. has paid more than the Europeans since Eisenhower, and now, for the first time, they will equalize that, "Without Trump, that would not have happened." He said this was "transformational."

Garcia-Navarro then sought to paint a divergence between the U.S. and NATO on Vladimir Putin and Ukraine. Rutte batted that down as well, explaining how it was Trump who was finally able to get Putin to the table for talks.

"With the risk that I'm again praising President Trump — but I will do it again — he is the one who broke the deadlock with Putin."

"When he became president in January, he started these discussions with Putin — and he was the only one who was able to do this."

"Because going forward, this had to happen: a direct dialogue between the American president and the president of the Russian Federation."

Rutte said, "The good news is that the Europeans have now cobbled together $35 billion again in military aid this year to deliver to Ukraine — which is more than last year."

Garcia-Navarro was again upset with that, and Rutte shut her down, saying it was only logical that the Europeans should bear more responsibility for it.

And they wonder why people no longer trust the media when they try to twist the situation and not recognize what is excellent work by Trump in the interests of America. Good on Rutte for being honest and not letting her get away with it.
