Many people were so grateful that former President Donald Trump was not more seriously hurt in the assassination attempt last Saturday. His response also said so much about him, that he stood up and pumped his fist, and said, "Fight!" to let the people know that he was okay.
One man was killed in the incident, firefighter Corey Comperatore, who bravely dove onto his family to protect them. Two other men, 74-year-old James Copenhaver and 57-year-old David Dutch, were also wounded in the shooting.
When Trump came out to give his speech on the last night of the convention, he took that moment to honor Comperatore. It was a very touching tribute, with Comparatore's fire gear on the stage to remember him. The gear had been sent by his family and the fire department. Trump asked for a moment of silence, then noted there is no greater love than giving one's life to save another.
He also noted they had raised over $6 million for the victims and their families.
Trump had spoken to each of the families. Comperatore's widow said he called her and “was very kind and said he would continue to call me in the days and weeks ahead.”
“I told him the same thing I told everyone else. He left this world a hero and God welcomed him in. He did not die in vain that day,” she said of her husband, according to a screenshot of the post.
Now, anyone with a soul would see that as a beautiful moment to honor the man.
But some on the left showed just how deep their Trump Derangement Syndrome was running, attacking Trump over the tribute, in particular over the spelling of Corey Comperatore's name on the jacket. It was spelled "Compertore" without the "a," but they didn't apparently care to take the time to find out why. They just saw it, they thought, as an opportunity to attack Trump, regardless of the disrespect they themselves were showing to the moment honoring him. The "a" was left out because they would only fit a certain number of letters on the jacket, according to his fire department. So it's always been that way.

But that prompted the left, which just spreads nonsense and never checks any facts, to claim that the jacket was a fake prop and/or that Trump/RNC misspelled his name. One post got checked by a Community Note.

Here was a sample of the insanity that Symone Sanders spread on MSNBC.

Sanders said she was "sickened" by the "prop." "And then they spelled the man's name wrong," she ranted.
Then, she seemed to go right into a conspiracy theory.
They said, "Oh, we are so grateful that the fire department sent this to us." These are local danggone dollars, okay? This is not 'Chicago Fire.' They ain't got their names on the back of the jacket. It's like, who are you fooling? But then they put the name on it and they spelled it wrong. I was just kind of like, if we're gonna do props, let's at least get it right."
It's hard to believe when folks on the left act like this that they have hearts. It isn't about a prop. It's about a man who gave his life to protect his family. It isn't about their Trump hate, but they can't even set that aside, even just for this moment.
