Biden Visits Baltimore Bridge Collapse: Talks About His Family, Biceps, Slurs, and Promises Lots of Money

Joe Biden is in Baltimore to survey the damage and efforts to clear the channel from the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge.

First, he took an aerial view of the bridge.

Then he met with officials about what was going on at the Maryland Transportation Authority Police Headquarters. They had big boards to explain things for him. But what did he include in his comments? Gov. Wes Moore's biceps.

Stop sniffing kids and stop touching guys' biceps, Joe. Focus on what you're supposed to be doing there. But he seems to have real difficulty doing that.

Even as they led him over to the boards where there were big "Xs" on the floor, he had to be told and helped where to stand.

The look on his face as he arrived at the board was one of complete surprise — alleged leader of the free world.

Biden got an update from Brigadier General John Lloyd on response and recovery efforts. Lloyd said he has 51 divers and 12 cranes on site and has everything he needs to open the channel. It took about 15 minutes.

Gov. Wes Moore explained during his remarks that people, including sports teams, had donated more than $15 million to help.

Then Biden gave remarks. He started by talking about his father being from Baltimore. Because of course he did.

He also made a joke about one of the politician's names, the county executive he called "Johnny O, ho, ho."

Likely they didn't even want him to try with his last name: Olszewski

Biden also had a bad episode of slurring when he was talking about federal worker grants.

Biden said they would provide federal money for workers affected and said he would provide federal money to cover rebuilding the entire bridge.

Biden stressed that he'd been to every area of the port "by car" — likely to try to recover from that claim that he went over the bridge by train when there were no rail lines.

He asked God to bless the first responders and "all those who gave their cell" at the end of the speech. I'm not sure what he was trying to say there, it was weird. Perhaps he was trying to say "gave of themselves," but he didn't.

Then he had to ask Moore if he was going the right way as he exited the podium.
