Back in the day, one of my favorite political sites apart from RedState was the Ace of Spades HQ. The site, run by the fastidiously pseudonymous Ace of Spades, stood for the Reaganite tripod of values, and for reform of the Republican party.

Now the site’s founder has made a startling announcement, but it’s perfectly fitting for him.

Ace has announced that because conservatives are seeking to sink Trump – whom he supports and wants to elect – he’s going to become a Democrat. His last two paragraphs explain the core of why:

If you’re part of an army that’s deliberately losing the war, maybe you should start thinking about your own safety and security and slip across No Man’s Land to join the other side.

At least that army seems to give a [***] about protecting its own.

Ace has gone into full-blown tribalism here. He believes the purpose of government and of politics are to Take Care Of Our Own™. Does that sound familiar? It should.

Taking care of our own is the core motivation driving the Trump Democrats into the Republican Party, to vote for Trump first in the primary, and now in the general election. As I said in early March:

In the past, if you were an American, the Democrats were ready to lend you a hand. The end goal was cradle-to-grave socialism for all Americans. Food programs for the young, unemployment insurance and unions for adults, and Social Security for the retired. But now, the Democrats want to pick winners and losers. They’re losing groups that used to be their staunch allies, like poor whites, police unions, and coal miners.

You’ve got all these white Democrats who see everyone else in the coalition getting set asides, but now instead of getting theirs, they’re being told they need to check their privilege, apologize, and then stop talking.

Those are the Trump Democrats. People who for decades were middle of the road Democrats who believed in welfare, a moderate foreign policy, and regulation of big business.

Ace has clearly become one of Trump’s tribalists. If Trump loses, and fails to realign the Republican Party into the White Democrat Party, then it makes perfect sense for Ace to move to the Democrats with the Trump Democrats.

So I agree with Ace. He should become a Democrat if he loves Trump so much. It’s the right call for him. Maybe the change will be a good thing for the reclusive blogger with a beautiful mind.
