Welp, that didn't turn out as planned.
Two Venezuelan nationals (read: illegal aliens) accused of assaulting an ICE officer during a harrowing arrest in Minneapolis were briefly freed by a federal judge this week — only for ICE to swoop in and re-arrest them immediately.
How immediately?
Alfredo Alejandro Ajorna, 26, and Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis, 24, were re-arrested before they even left the courthouse.
To be sure, the dynamic duo were not your typical anti-ICE agitators (see: clueless white liberal women).
Our story begins with federal agents in mid-January attempting to arrest Sosa-Celis, who brilliantly sped away, crashed into a parked car, and then fled on foot. When an ICE officer finally caught up, the suspect allegedly responded by violently attacking him.
It gets worse.
Two bystanders gleefully joined the attack, allegedly swinging a snow shovel and a broom handle at the officer. According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the office fired once, hitting Sosa-Celis in the leg. Even then, the suspects allegedly limped their way back to an apartment and barricaded themselves inside.
In other words, just another *normal* day in the left-wing craziness of out-of-control Minneapolis.

Here's more, according to court records cited by The Minnesota Star Tribune:
Alfredo Alejandro Ajorna, 26, and Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis, 24, were released under court-ordered conditions Tuesday after a judge found they did not pose a heightened flight risk, the outlet reported. The men were re-detained by ICE almost immediately after the hearing and never left the courthouse before agents took them back into custody.
The Tribune reported that attorneys for the men said ICE detained them "without explanation" shortly after the judge’s release order, prompting a habeas corpus petition filed late Tuesday. Minnesota Chief U.S. District Judge Patrick J. Schiltz then barred ICE from removing the men from the state and ordered the federal government to explain its actions by Friday.
So... imagine for a nanosecond you were stopped by federal officers (who were legally enforcing federal law, no less), and you chose to flee. Then, even more brilliantly, after they caught up with you, you not only resisted arrest; you attacked an agent with a shovel. What do you suppose would happen to you?
Yeah, me too.
Speaking of insanity, attorney Brian Clark wrote in an emergency habeas petition, according to the outlet:
This re-detention is unconstitutional, and they should be immediately released.
I'm not an attorney, but how on earth was the re-arrest unconstitutional? (It wasn't.)
Yet, Minnesota Chief U.S. District Judge Patrick J. Schiltz stepped in and barred ICE from removing the suspects from the state and ordered the federal government to explain its actions by Friday.
Yes, I'm shaking my head, too.

What's next?
As RedState reported earlier on Wednesday, White House border czar Tom Homan — recently tapped by President Trump to reduce that chaos in Minneapolis — announced at a Wednesday morning press conference an immediate “drawdown” of federal law enforcement personnel stationed in the so-called "sanctuary city":
According to Homan, 700 agents will be leaving Minneapolis "effective immediately." The move, he said, is far from being a "surrender" by the Trump administration on deportation efforts, but is instead the result of "unprecedented cooperation" between federal agencies and local officials. Specifically, Homan pointed to the increasingly open dialogues with the offices of Mayor Jacob Frey (D), Governor Tim Walz (D), and the Minneapolis Police Department (MPD).
While this is potentially good news, let's not forget the ongoing incendiary language and behavior of embattled Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and equally loony Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey — and what they might do in the days to come.
