Mayorkas Calls Impeachment 'Baseless' in Smug, Deceitful Letter to Homeland Security Committee

The Republican-majority House Homeland Security Committee was scheduled to mark up a resolution on Tuesday morning to impeach embattled Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, the first time in nearly 150 years that the House will try to remove a member of a president’s Cabinet.

The committee planned to mark up articles of impeachment and then vote on them. Two articles, “Willful and Systemic Refusal to Comply with the Law” and “Breach of the Public Trust,” were then expected to be sent to the full House for a vote to impeach.

Ever defiant, Mayorkas — who has been a clear and present danger to the United States since his first day on the job — fired off a seven-page letter to the committee, declaring the impeachment proceedings against him “baseless” and the accusations made against him by Republican members of the Homeland Security Committee “false.”

Gathering all the smugness at his command, Mayorkas wrote:

I will defer a discussion of [the] Constitutionality of your current effort to the many respected scholars and experts across the political spectrum who already have opined it is contrary to [the] law. What I will not defer to others is a response to the politically motivated accusations and personal attacks you have made against me.

Meanwhile, as I reported on Saturday, the never-ending illegal alien border surge set a stunning record in December, as 371,036 illegals were caught entering the country, breaking the Biden administration's previous record of 341,392 set in August 2023. Encounters along the southwest border also set a new record, hitting 302,034, according to other data released by CBP on Jan. 26.

Yet, Mayorkas has the gall to "defer" to "respected scholars and experts" and claim the law is on his side. Please.

The DHS head claimed the “false accusations” made by the committee “do not” rattle him and “do not” divert him “from the law enforcement and broader public service mission to which I have devoted most of my career and to which I remain devoted.”

"Devoted" to what, Mr. Secretary?

Mayorkas absurdly claimed allegations that he failed to enforce existing immigration laws were "false," citing even more absurd "facts" — while ignoring the larger reality. Among them:

This administration has removed, returned, or expelled my migrants in three years than the prior administration did in four years.

Since May 1, 2023, DHS has removed or returned more than 500, 000 individuals, the vast majority of whom crossed the Southwest Border.

Total removals and returns since mid-May 2023 exceed removals and returns in every full fiscal year since 2015.

Just one problem, Mr. Secretary:

You "forgot" to mention the millions of illegal aliens you intentionally allowed into this country, in addition to the unknowable number of gotaways who continue to waltz in as well.

Mayorkas Plays the 'My Parents' Card

Mayorkas, who is Cuban-American, claimed he has had "reverence" for law enforcement since he was brought to the U.S. by his parents, who escaped the communist takeover of Cuba.

My parents experienced such loss at the fisted hands of authoritarianism that the American law enforcement officer stood as a tangible symbol of safety and the rule of law in our new home.

When I was a boy, my mother would have me jump out of the back seat of our family's station wagon, approach a police officer in uniform, extend my hand, and say thank you.

It was because of everything America meant and gave to my family that I was motivated to enter public service.

Spare us, Mr. Secretary. Whether your poignant story is true — or just another lie — it has zero relevance to the clear and present danger you are to the security of this country.

Finally, Mayorkas referenced the Senate's "bipartisan" border "security" bill, which Speaker Mike Johnson has said would be DOA in the House.

I have been privileged to join a bipartisan group of United States Senators these past several months to provide technical and operational expertise in support of their efforts to strengthen our country's border security. These efforts would yield significant new enforcement tools and make a substantial difference at our border.

That right there — the fact that Mayorkas supports the bill — should be proof enough to anyone who loves this country to adamantly reject it.

The Bottom Line

People like Alejandro Mayorkas, be they narcissists, or afflicted with some other disorder that renders them incapable of honesty, unable to give a damn while lying with impunity, and even worse, not give a damn what they're lying about, have no business being anywhere near the security apparatus of this country.
