Meanwhile, Scientific American Compares Ron DeSantis to Fascist Dictator Benito Mussolini

Move over, Adolf Hitler, the left has a new awful human being to compare to Republican leaders. Scientific American recently compared Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to Italy’s brutal Fascist dictator, Benito Mussolini — with multiple examples to “prove” the comparison.

Be honest: how can you not laugh at the magnificent morons of the radical left?

Better question: What the hell does a once-trustworthy scientific and medical publication have to do with politics, let alone the radical leftist ideology necessary to compare a popular American governor to a brutal dictator who forged a violent paramilitary fascist movement, and whose soldiers murdered thousands of civilians, bombed the Red Cross, dropped poison gas, starved infants in concentration camps, and tried to annihilate cultures deemed inferior?

In a perverse article titled Fascism’s History Offers Lessons about Today’s Attacks on Education, the author argued that “moves in Florida to control public education mirror past fascist strategies in ways that are disquieting for American democracy.”

Translation: Ron DeSantis is a “fascist” for listening to Florida voters’ concerns about leftist indoctrination of young public school kids with Marxist-derived Critical Race Theory, the insanity of DEI (diversity, equity, inclusion) “training,” the perversion of so-called “gender fluidity,” and the madness of “transgenderism,” including the irreversible mutilation of children’s bodies.

Oh, the humanity! Clearly, DeSantis is the personification of evil.

Author Eden McLean wrote (emphasis, mine):

Public education has long been a battlefield in the U.S., from the Scopes trial to desegregation to climate change. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s recent demands for greater control over public education — and students’ bodies — in the guise of “parent’s rights” accelerates this conflict, rejecting the importance of learning as a public good in itself in favor of promoting conformity and uncritical thinking.

As a historian of fascism and Italian fascist education, I find the moves to exert more power over education disturbingly familiar. Even ignoring the obvious harm DeSantis’s campaign inflicts on Florida’s students — already detailed by numerous experts — the effort to constrict the information available to students mirrors fascist ambitions in important ways and threatens the very democratic foundations its proponents claim to champion.

History shows such efforts harm us all.

How do I put this, tactfully? What a complete crock of insane crap. What history has shown us is that people who think as Eden McLean thinks are far more dangerous to society than the likes of Ron DeSantis or any other conservative political figure.

Here’s how McLean couched the specific areas I highlighted, earlier, from Critical Race Theory to so-called “transgenderism”:

Last summer, Florida lawmakers enacted two laws limiting access to information in public education. The first, the Stop Wrongs to Our Kids and Employees, or Stop W.O.K.E. Act, prohibits teachers and teaching materials from promoting the idea that anyone is inherently oppressive or responsible for the actions of others who share “the same race, color, sex, or national origin.”

The second, the now infamous “Don’t Say Gay” law, formally the Parental Rights in Education Act, bans “classroom instruction” in sexual orientation or gender identity before fourth grade.

Several other bills moving through the Florida House of Representatives and Senate are designed to further stifle critical thinking, debate and broader awareness of the society we live in—all under the banner “Freedom from Indoctrination.”

Examples include banning “classroom instruction” (or recognition) of nonbinary gender identities and sexual orientations more widely; legally defining “sex” as binary and “immutable,” and removing all sexual health education from elementary and middle school curricula.

A question, while I’m thinking of it: When, why, and how did public education appoint itself to “educate” our kids about anything above? Better, yet: When did parents agree to allow the above indoctrination to occur? Again, “insanity” continues to rear its ugly “progressive” head, here — and it’s only getting worse.

So of course, DeSantis Is Mussolini Incarnate

McLean’s “rationale” for comparing DeSantis to Mussolini is laughable:

At the heart of fascist political strategy was the expansion of state control over public and private life under the facades of popular support and common good. Mussolini may have been legally appointed as Italy’s prime minister in 1922, but by 1927 all political parties had been banned or absorbed into his Fascist Party.

At the Ministry of Education, Mussolini appointed nine ministers over 21 years. Only five had teaching experience but, more importantly, all but one (who quit after six months) were devoted party members who did little to question Mussolini’s directives.

Another similarity to fascism related to this preference for loyalty over training is the targeted sidelining of experts and outright rejection of contradictory viewpoints.

As Mussolini solidified his power in the 1920s, he increasingly placed restrictions on school curricula (and public discourse) until the regime announced the development of national textbooks produced by a handful of party faithful.

These texts prioritized content supporting fascist ideology and conforming to a pseudoscientific vision of the world, including Mussolini’s resurrection of ancient Rome’s glory; Italians’ racial superiority and right to invade sovereign kingdoms; women’s national obligation to be mothers of future soldiers; and, later, Jewish racial inferiority.

Oh, hell, that’s DeSantis to a “T,” huh? [sarc]

The Bottom Line

Again, radical leftists like Eden McLean lay bare the illogical “logic” of the insanity enveloping the 21st-century American left. Moreover, the metastasis of this insanity is near complete in today’s “progressive” Democrat Party.

Meanwhile, the 80-year-old, mentally declining, pretend leader of the free world — who dances at the end of strings pulled by radical-leftist puppeteers — was again this year stopped from wandering away by a giant Easter Bunny. How reassuring.

2024 matters — bigly — let’s not screw it up.
