Widow of Slain Police Captain David Dorn Slams BLM, 'Supervillain' Kamala Harris in Blistering Op-Ed

RedState has extensively covered the brutal June 2, 2020, murder of 77-year-old retired police captain David Dorn by looters — for a flat-screen TV  — and left to bleed out on a St. Louis sidewalk.

Dorn was defending a friend’s pawn shop. Appallingly, the 38-year police veteran’s murder was heartlessly live-streamed on Facebook. Little more than two months later, Captain Dorn’s widow, Ann, delivered a moving speech at the Republican National Convention.

Looters were ransacking the shop. They shot and killed David in cold blood, and then live-streamed his execution and last moments on Earth… I relive that horror in my mind every day.

My former colleague Caleb Hull was right, writing in a 2020 tweet: “Absolutely gut-wrenching moment from David Dorn’s wife, Ann.”

As reported by my RedState colleague Susie Moore in late July 2022, Stephan Cannon was found guilty of David Dorn’s murder.

In a scathing Tuesday op-ed published by Fox News, Ann Dorn accuses “terrorist organization” Black Lives Matter and related activists like Vice President Kamala Harris of dividing America, blasting them as “supervillains.”

Last month, the Black Lives Matter rioter who murdered my husband over two years ago was finally convicted in court. My husband was retired St. Louis Police Captain David Dorn. He was Black. His life mattered.

[…]

Although David was retired from the police force at the time, he never retired from serving his community. One of our friends owned a pawn shop, which was only 10 minutes from our house but nearly an hour away from where our friend lived. Because of this, David was the point of contact for the alarm system and would check on the shop whenever the alarm went off. He had been doing this for 30 years.

On June 1, 2020, everything changed for the Dorns — forever.

On the night of June 1, 2020, St. Louis erupted in violence as Black Lives Matter descended upon the city. Buildings were burned, businesses were looted, and rioters shot at firefighters and police officers.

In the early hours of June 2, 2020, David got the call that multiple alarms had been tripped and someone was in the pawn shop. He went to check on the shop, knowing that the city was consumed by violence and chaos.

When he arrived at the shop, David confronted a few of the rioters outside, one of whom was a man named Stephan Cannon. David told them it wasn’t worth it, that there was little of value in the shop that wasn’t tightly locked up.

Moments later Cannon shot David in the chest. He bled out on the sidewalk. A third rioter live-streamed the entire incident, and we later learned that one of the many viewers who watched David’s murder unfold was David’s eldest grandson.

Evil defined.

Ann writes, “Ultimately, David was murdered because the people who are supposed to protect our streets — active-duty police officers — were ordered not to do their jobs. It is clear that the anti-law enforcement sentiment that has been fueled in this country by Democrat and left-wing activist rhetoric has gone too far.”

“And he was a superhero,” she adds, “but if real-life superheroes exist, so do supervillains.”

Those supervillains are people like the man who killed my husband. They are people like billionaire George Soros, who use their power and influence to promote extremist politics and fan the flames of division.

They are people like Vice President Kamala Harris, who raised money for the rioters’ bail funds, and the CEOs of prominent companies who blindly gave their support and money to this.

One such example of Harris’ despicable bail funds activism included her support for the Minnesota Freedom Fund, which raised money to bail out BLM rioters, and in one case, a man accused of penetrating an 8-year-old child.

In reference to Black Lives Matter, Ann Dorn says: “If a foreign organization was tied to nationwide rioting in the U.S., we’d probably call it a terrorist organization.”

Damn right we would — and we do.

And Captain Dorn’s opinion of BLM? His widow writes:

David didn’t agree with or support Black Lives Matter. He never understood Black Lives Matter, because it never actually did anything to help Black lives. The same year David was killed, over a dozen children were shot in St. Louis, and never once did Black Lives Matter show up. Their lives mattered. Fifty-five businesses were looted or destroyed the night David was murdered, many of them Black-owned. Their livelihoods mattered. My husband was a Black man who selflessly served his community for over 40 years. His life mattered.

The bottom line:

Again, heart-wrenchingly true. And not just in St. Louis. Every weekend, the streets of Chicago’s Southside run red with the blood of young black men caught up in gangs. Where is Kamala Harris? Joe Biden? Black Lives Matter? They remain silent as new murder rates in many Democrat-run American cities continue to rise, year after year.

Why? Because these horrific stories run counter to the racist narrative of the leftists. White supremacy and systemic racism present the greatest threat facing America, Biden tells us. “Assault rifles” and other “weapons of war” in the hands of young white men are the “real” gun problem in America, they tell us, as they continue to attack the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding gun owners.

It is insane and is growing more insane.

Thank God for brave people like Captain David Dorn, and his wife, Ann, for continuing to speak out against the insanity — but mostly about the hypocrisy of the Democrat Party and acquiescence to the rabid left.
