Let's flashback to 2019 and 2020 when President Joe Biden told illegals that when he becomes president, they can come into the country. He said to those who come to the United States seeking asylum, "we should absorb them."

Per a recent report by Axios:

The president lit into his team, which included then-Deputy Chief of Staff Jen O'Malley Dillon, Homeland Security adviser Liz Sherwood-Randall and other immigration officials. He demanded obscure immigration data points — and vented when his staff didn't have them handy.

The issue was treated like a "hot potato" according to several sources in and out of the government. 

The idea that no one wanted to "own it" came up repeatedly in interviews about the border crisis. But the problem required a robust and coordinated response at several levels of the federal government.

A former Biden administration senior official said Kamala has not effectively dealt with the border crisis.

She's been at best ineffective, and at worst sporadically engaged and not seeing it was her responsibility. It's an opportunity for her, and she didn't fill the breach.

Most people could have seen that coming, and although she has been an awful Vice President and could not handle the border challenges, after what took place during the Democrat primary and Jill making it known that she did not want Harris to be Biden's running mate, due to Harris "attacking" Biden and essentially calling him a racist, it seemed like she was predestined for failure on the border issue.

Here is where the story becomes relatively surprising, even by Biden's standards. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan left most of his border portfolio to Sherwood-Randall, someone who had little experience on the issue, per Axios.

A sign of her inexperience came early on, when she asked an official on her team for a memo explaining the difference between refugees and asylum seekers, according to a person familiar with the request.

These are terms that are introduced in middle school, the latest high school during social studies or civics class. Asylum seekers are individuals who flee their home country and are asking another country for safety as they wait for that particular country to decide if they can stay as refugees. Refugees are individuals who have been given permission to stay in another country due to danger in their home country. 

It is astounding that a member of the Biden administration, no matter what their role is, does not know immigration terms. 

Axios highlights what the internal turmoil led to.

Biden stopped kicking out asylum seekers under Trump's "Remain in Mexico" program, but for years continued to use pandemic-era restrictions known as Title 42 to send asylum seekers back to Mexico.

The administration extended temporary protections for Venezuelans in the U.S. — and weeks later, announced plans to deport Venezuelans for the first time in years.

Biden's team stopped holding undocumented families in U.S. detention centers — a practice under Presidents Bush, Obama and Trump — in favor of monitoring people using ankle bracelets and other technology.

Then, as conditions worsened, Biden considered restarting the detention program.

This just goes to show that even a policy such as "Remain in Mexico," which was effective, was overturned because of their disdain for former President Trump.

As the House GOP voted to impeach Alejandro Mayorkas on Tuesday, the border and illegal migration will be a big part of the 2024 election, as the Biden administration has struggled to address the issue since the president invited these migrants to come to America in 2021.
