NBA Roundup:

The Brooklyn Nets offered Kevin Durant and asked the Timberwolves for center Karl-Anthony Towns, guard Anthony Edwards, and four draft picks. The Timberwolves declined the trade. Although Durant is arguably a top-three player in the NBA, giving up two young and top-tier talents, as well as four draft picks, was too high of an asking price. If the Nets expect a similar return for Durant, he will likely remain in Brooklyn, as most teams will not budge to give up that much talent.

Lakers’ new coach Darvin Ham says guard Russell Westbrook has been “counted out prematurely.”

“I got a wholehearted plan, a clear plan on how I’m going to use him. … I think he’s going to flourish. We ain’t going to try to curtail his energy.”

LA Times writer Brad Turner gave an update about the Kyrie Irving sweepstakes:

“I do think at some point before they get to camp, Kyrie is playing for the Lakers… from everything I’ve read & been told, the Nets will not do anything regarding Kyrie until they trade Kevin Durant.”

The Philadelphia 76ers were “close” to trading Eric Gordon on draft night, but talks fell apart. Several teams offered the Rockets a first-round pick, but the offers were denied.

According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, Kyrie Irving will be on the Lakers eventually.

“Kyrie Irving absolutely wants to be a Los Angeles Laker… I doubt Kyrie will be back with Brooklyn, I think he’ll be on the Lakers, but I don’t know when that’ll happen.”

Windhorst added that the Nets thought there would be a “massive” bidding war for Durant, but the bidding war isn’t “hot,” although most teams seem interested in Durant.

The Lakers will have a plan B if they can’t trade for Irving: attempt to trade for sharpshooter Budy Hield or Eric Gordon.

The Pacers have interest in signing Suns center Deandre Ayton to an offer sheet or negotiating a sign-and-trade deal involving center Myles Turner and the Indiana Pacers.

Center Aron Baynes will work out for NBA teams in Las Vegas after missing the whole 2021 season due to a spinal cord injury.
