Fauci's Wingman Just Pled Guilty — Now It's Time to Also Hold Him Accountable

Now we know why Dr. Anthony Fauci is dodging further Senate testimony. One of his senior advisors just pleaded guilty to conspiracy to defraud the United States.

The Department of Justice announced that Dr. David Morens had issued the guilty plea.

A former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) employee pled guilty in federal court, today, to a conspiracy charge stemming from a scheme to evade Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests and the Federal Records Act in connection with communications about coronavirus research grants.
David M. Morens, 78, of Chester, Maryland, pled guilty to conspiracy to commit offenses and to defraud the United States. Morens served as a senior advisor in NIAID’s Office of the Director from 2006 through 2022.

Crucially, the case goes right to the heart of the COVID origins story.

According to his guilty plea, Morens, Co-Conspirator 1, Co-Conspirator 2, and others conspired during the COVID-19 pandemic to defraud the United States after NIH terminated Co-Conspirator 1’s grant. NIH terminated the grant, Understanding the Risk of Bat Coronavirus Emergence, based on allegations that COVID-19 emerged from the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) in Wuhan, China. NIAID awarded the grant to Company 1 and Co-Conspirator 1, who made a subaward to the WIV.
Following the termination, Morens and Co-Conspirator 2 pledged to help Co-Conspirator 1 restore the termination of the bat coronavirus grant and counter the narrative that COVID-19 leaked from a lab. In anticipation that their communications would be requested through FOIA Requests, Morens, Co-Conspirator 1, and Co-Conspirator 2 agreed in writing to intentionally hide their communications from public view by corresponding using Morens’s personal Gmail account, rather than his official NIH email account.

Now, it gets really interesting. That's because Dr. Fauci is similarly accused of deleting emails, as was noted by Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), who chairs the U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs.

In September 2025, Sen. Paul demanded that Fauci appear before the committee and answer for the reported deletion of records.

The letter notes that during his June 2024 testimony before the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, Dr. Fauci was asked if he had ever deleted records, and he responded, “No.”
He was similarly asked if he had ever attempted to obstruct the Freedom of Information Act or the release of public documents, and if he had deleted emails or records related to the Wuhan lab or the origins of the virus. Dr. Fauci again responded, “No.”
In an email obtained by the committee dated Feb. 2, 2020, Dr. Fauci directed NIH Director Dr. Francis Collins to “please delete this e-mail after you read it.”

It's no wonder Fauci pleaded the Fifth Amendment over 100 times.

Multiple states have opened criminal investigations into Dr. Anthony Fauci, since his "preemptive pardon" appears to be shielding him from federal prosecutors: Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and West Virginia.

Sen. Paul has forwarded the committee's party line vote to recommend that Fauci be held in Contempt of Congress to the Department of Justice.

The Department of Justice has not issued a public determination on whether or not Fauci will actually be prosecuted, but such reports are likely to increase public pressure on the DOJ to hold the former top COVID doctor accountable to the law.
