President Donald Trump appeared to announce that his crime crackdown will spread to the very blue city of Memphis, in the red state of Tennessee.

During his appearance on Friday on "Fox and Friends," President Trump talked about the success his administration has had after enacting a 30-day federalization of local law enforcement in Washington, D.C., before he revealed the next Democrat-run city that could see a surge of officers.

"Look at what we did in D.C.," Trump said. "We took D.C., probably the single-worst place in the country in terms of crime. There's no crime. It's a crime-free area."

"D.C. is now a great, safe…now we're fixing it up physically too," he added, pointing out that they will even be fixing the potholes. "We're going to make it beautiful."

"Almost every city that's in trouble is run by Democrats," Trump continued. "We're going to straighten out the crime in these cities. So, we're going to Memphis. I'm going to announce that now…Memphis is deeply troubled... We're going to fix that just like we did in Washington."

The White House later sent out a press release confirming Memphis is next for the federalization of officers.

"This morning, President Donald J. Trump announced plans to deploy federal resources to Memphis, Tennessee, as part of the Trump Administration's aggressive push to dismantle the rampant violent crime fueled by failed Democrat governance in major cities," the statement read. "With Memphis enduring the highest violent crime rate in the nation, President Trump's decisive action has already been welcomed by elected officials in the state.

The press release then provided some shocking stats. Here are some that stood out.

In 2024, Memphis had the highest violent crime rate, highest property crime rate, and the third-highest murder rate in the U.S.

  • Violent crime increased in 2024, bucking the national trend.

  • Memphis's total crime rate was 344% higher than the national average.

In 2024, Memphis's murder rate was higher than notoriously high-crime U.S. cities — such as Chicago, Baltimore, Detroit, and Washington, D.C — and roughly four times higher than Mexico City, 27 times higher than Havana, and 37 times higher than London.
