Scott Jennings Says Democrats Have Cried Wolf Too Many Times—Working Class No Longer Believes Them

CNN senior political commentator Scott Jennings said that Democrats have cried wolf too many times, and when it comes to things like illegal immigration and "insane cultural issues," they have no credibility with the working class.

During Monday's episode of "The Lead with Jake Tapper," Tapper was speaking with Jennings and Democrat strategist David Axelrod about President Donald Trump's economic policies.

Axelrod claimed that "working-class Americans were concerned about the cost of food on their table," housing, and energy, while not mentioning once that everything went up under former President Joe Biden's four years in office. The Dem strategist then claimed Trump had done nothing about those things.

Jennings rightly pointed out that Democrats have zero credibility with the working class after ignoring their concerns for years about the dangers of Biden's massive illegal immigration, pushing gender identity in schools on kids as young as kindergartners, and the Democrats' obsession with identity politics. He also said that "Trump has better numbers on the economy than Democrats right now, despite all the rhetoric and all the doom and gloom of apocalyptic tales" they and the legacy media try to push.

"Well, I just disagree with David," Jennings said. "I think working-class Americans can see Donald Trump as fighting for them. And they see the Democratic party elites as being out of touch with them. Not just on the economy, but on a range of issues."

"I think these things are more interconnected than you want to believe," he added. "And if you can't trust what a Democrat says about something that seems like an 80-20, or 90-10, or 95-5 issue, then why would I trust you when you are out here crapping on Donald Trump's economic agenda."

"And by the way, I don't believe that people are going away from the President on his economic policies," Jennings continued. "They do believe he's fighting for working-class Americans. The things he is doing are more for the mainstream than Wall Street right now. And I do believe he has a longer leash than you are giving him right now to enact his agenda."

Jenning's claims are backed by recent polls that show the president is winning the argument against Democrats across a host of issues, RedState reported.

Bob Hoge wrote that:

Despite some pessimism earlier in this, Trump's second (non-consecutive) term, another new survey released Monday shows that a majority is feeling mighty good about the direction of the economy.

The survey read that:

The Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll released Monday revealed the first net-positive rating on the strength of the U.S. economy since July 2021, the first few months of former President Joe Biden's administration.

When asked, "How strong do you think the U.S. economy is today?" a majority of registered voters polled saw it as "strong" under Trump compared to "weak" for almost the entirety of the Biden administration.

  • Strong: 51% (plus-5 points from April)

  • Weak: 49% (minus-6 points from April)

Great news for America! But wait, there's more!

"For the first time since July 2021, just over half of voters say the U.S. economy is strong today," the report said.

Despite the positive sentiment from registered voters apparent now, there has been considerable criticism heaped on Trump's tariffs and financial market fluctuations for weeks for having let down his "Make America Great Again" (MAGA) voter base on the economy.

But Trump, his Cabinet, staffers, and political and economic backers note the S&P 500 has regained all of the April 2 "Liberation Day" losses. That was the date of market dips due to Trump's massive tariffs agenda designed to rebalance the global trade order.

So much winning!
