BREAKING: GOP Wins Control of U.S. Senate

According to projections from Decision Desk HQ, the Republican party has gained control of the US Senate.

The first flip occurred pretty early in the night, with former West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice, a Republican, winning that seat, which was open after the retirement of Sen. Joe Manchin.

Now, DDHQ projects that entrepreneur Bernie Moreno has won the U.S. Senate election in Ohio.

Moreno addressed supporters just after 11 PM Eastern, saying (in part):

"Today starts a new wave. We talked about wanting a red wave; I think what we have tonight is a red, white, and blue wave. Because what we need in the United States of America are people in Washington, DC who put the needs of American citizens above all else.... We're tired of leaders who think we are garbage, and we're tired of being treated like garbage."

Moreno added:

"If you're listening, Chuck Schumer, thanks for the help in the primary, but you're fired."

Additional toss-up Senate seats are in Nevada, Arizona, Wisconsin, Montana, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. At this point it seems very likely that Montana will flip, which will be another pickup for the Republicans.

Democrats had hoped to pick off FL Sen. Rick Scott and TX Sen. Ted Cruz, but were unsuccessful.
