Dr. Anthony Fauci is a world-renowned expert on pathology.
But new diary entries reveal that during the height of the COVID pandemic, he had a pathological obsession with his own fame and fortune.
Such is the key insight drawn from recently disclosed diary entries, which show Dr. Fauci was more absorbed with his own public image than with the accuracy of COVID information being sent to the public.
Masks work, masks don’t work, shots stop the spread, they don’t stop the spread — we now get some sense that the public’s confusion about COVID information was being exacerbated by the nation’s top doctor being distracted by his own publicity.
In new documents released by Senate Homeland Security Committee Chairman Rand Paul (R-KY), Fauci’s love affair with himself is laid bare for everyone to see.
On April 7, 2020, Fauci wrote:
"Press still hot and heavy about me. Multiple stories per day directly or indirectly involving me."
That appears to be the rumination of a public figure more so than that of a public servant.
On May 2, he documented the latest pandemic figures of nearly 98,000 global deaths and more than 27,000 U.S. deaths. Then, he boasted to himself that his "national and international fame is explosive and really unimaginable," before gloating that it was “not hyperbole” to claim he was "the most famous and talked about person in the country."
This is self-celebratory prose that would make Narcissus himself blush.

It gets more ironic. Fauci was struck by Trump’s early fawning over him. He wrote that Trump "seems to be enamored of me even though I am taking the spotlight away from him," and added they were forging "a very unique and interesting relationship."
There’s more. Fauci made sure to note a shameless Harlequin romance entry from the Washington Post that notes, “Sally Quinn Modeled the Erotic Hero of Her 1994 Bestseller on…Anthony Fauci.”
He reacted by saying:
“Media blitz, stories (mostly good, but some critical) abound with dozens per day. Truly unbelievable. People naming their dogs after me. Sally Quinn saying that I was the erotic lead male in a book she wrote in 1994. She had met me at a dinner that year. And on and on. Still press is fixating on my not being allowed to testify before the Dem House but testifying before the GOP Senate.”
Gag me with a spoon.
Fauci was also smitten by an Instagram discussion with the “Pretty Woman” herself, Julia Roberts:
Had a wonderful Instagram discussion organized by the ONE Campaign with Julia Roberts. She was absolutely fabulous. She embarrassed me somewhat when I sat down in the chair and appeared on the screen through Zoom, she put her hands in front of her mouth and said “Oh my God. It’s Dr. Fauci, he is here.” Then she went on to say that I was he personal hero and how happy she was to have this conversation with me. We discussed COVID-19 and its potential impact on the developing world. I told her that we have a moral responsibility to help and also we have enlightened self-interest in that if the outbreak continues in the developing world, it will always be a threat to the rest of the world. Also, we discussed the importance of including the developing world in the vaccine trials and accessibility of vaccine. She was totally down to earth. Great experience!!
In reaction to a Fauci "bobblehead" series, he wrote:
The problem is that now I am one of the most recognizable and well-known people in the world. This is very strange; however, it is triggering increased hate mail and threats. My security detail (Brett Rowland, Andre Jacobs, Mike Salva, Ken are getting more careful and concerned.
From tidbits ranging from “Dancing with the Stars” invitations to an obsession with cataloguing media hits, even noting an extensive enemies’ list that would make Nixon raise an eyebrow, the diary is an extensive look at a man whose public image remains as elusive as his prison time.
After all, despite credible accusations that he misled Congress under oath on the subject of Wuhan laboratory funding for gain-of-function research, Fauci has a flimsy auto-pen “pre-emptive pardon” that has somehow functioned as a “get out of jail free” card.
Beyond the strange obsession with his own fame, there is a bit of illumination about his tense relationship with then President Trump.
In a November 1, 2020 entry, just weeks before the presidential election, Dr. Fauci recounts a phone call with Trump:
Then, at 9:30 AM, the POTUS called me from Air Force One. We had a 15 minute conversation where he did his usual rambling. He started by saying that I really need to be positive. “Tony, I really like you, and you know that, but what the f*** are you doing? You constantly drop bombs on me. Everybody wants me to fire you, but I am not going to fire you, you have too illustrious a career, but you have to be positive. The country cannot stay locked down. (I never said that we should lock down). You have got to give them hope. I like you but so many people, not only in the White House, but throughout the country hate you because of what you are doing. I am going to win this f***ing election by a landslide. Just watch. I always did things my way. And I always win, no matter what all these other f***ing people think. And that f***er Biden. He is so f***ing stupid. You are 10 times smarter than he is. I am going to kick his f***ing ass in this election. I will win by a landslide. Just wait and see. I will win Florida, Pennsylvania, Ohio, all the key states. Just wait and see. The smallest crowd that I had was 25,000 people. Biden had 5 people blowing their f***ing horns in their cars. Tony, you have to be positive. I do not want to keep you off TV, but when you are out there, you have to be positive. (I tried to interject some words that I am being positive by telling people what they need to do to avoid infection – he heard none of it and just kept talking over me. He did not seem hostile, but he was just rambling). Then when he was finished, he said: “OK,Tony, I will see you in a couple of days. Take care”.
"Although I do not think that I will be fired, I am not out of danger just yet," Fauci adds.
If only Trump had fired this narcissist. Imagine how much needless drama the country could have avoided, when what Americans needed most was competence and clarity.
