Players on MLB Partner Team Refuse to Wear Pride Jersey, Forcing a Forfeit of Pride Night Game

Courage is indeed contagious. The brave stand of the San Francisco Giants' players who wrote Genesis 9:12-16 on their caps, and the Texas Rangers' continued stance to not host Pride Nights in June, has much to do with this latest development in the pushback on the month-long Pride celebrations from more baseball players.

The York Revolution announced it has canceled and forfeited its scheduled Thursday game against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs after several players refused to wear the team's planned Pride Night jerseys.

In a statement issued late Wednesday, the club said the decision was made with “great disappointment” and that tickets for the June 18 game will be treated as a rainout and may be redeemed for any future 2026 regular-season home game.

From the York franchise's statement.

(June 17, 2026 – York, Pa.): It is with great disappointment and that the York Revolution have issued important changes to our 11th Annual Pride Night on Thursday, June 18th. Most significantly, the scheduled game between York and Southern Maryland will not be played and Pride will still be hosted as a free admission event. Everyone’s tickets for the game on Thursday will be treated as a rainout that can be redeemed for any future game.

This decision was not reached lightly. Unfortunately, several of our players have refused to wear the scheduled Pride Night jersey and the club decided that hosting the event is more important than forcing players to wear jerseys they are not comfortable with and playing the game.

As a result, and out of respect for the Pride Community and the York community as a whole, the York Revolution has decided that the game on Thursday, June 18 will be forfeited and that Pride Night will continue on as the feature element of the evening at WellSpan Park.

Of course, the betters who run the show pledged fealty to their LGBTQ and all the letters allies, and softly threw those pesky players under the bus for taking their stand.

We feel that this is the best way to stay consistent with our long-standing partnerships with the Rainbow Rose Center, JLS Automation and the long list of allies that have always been key partners of the York Revolution’s success in York, Pennsylvania.

To be clear; this action by the players is completely inconsistent with our vision as the Most Welcoming Place in York. As a small token of our regret for the last-minute change of plans and support for our LGBTQIA+ representing partners we are making a $10,000 donation to the Rainbow Rose Center to support and further their work in making sure the York community is as inclusive as we strive to make WellSpan Park in York, Pennsylvania.

Right.

As RedState has reported here and here, the fatigue is real, as these "celebrations" have gone from an acknowledgement, to a requirement, to forced submission and punishment of anyone who refuses to acknowledge or comply. When "bake the cake" went to "wear the jersey," it led to inevitable resistance, and now to backlash. Whether that backlash is an actual refusal to wear that jersey, or to imprint the scripture that affirms what the rainbow does mean, it is drawing a line in the sand, and more people now feel emboldened to do the same.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott praised his Texas Rangers, who continue to lead by example, and chastised Major League Baseball for their punitive attitude towards free speech expressions of faith.

The Texas Rangers are the only team in Major League Baseball that doesn't host a Pride Night. This week, they're hosting Faith and Family Night instead.

Meanwhile, MLB just warned Giants pitchers for writing Bible verses on their own caps.

In Texas, we don't punish people for living out their faith. We protect that right.

Thursday night, the Texas Rangers will host "Faith & Family" Night, where the players are welcomed to share their personal testimonies of faith.

Bravo to the York players, and other players in the MLB who openly live their values and go their own way, instead of bowing the knee to the culture's demands for LGBTQ+ orthodoxy. The York players get the hat tip this week. They didn't ask for permission or forgiveness; they just took a stand.
