A 25-year-old Dallas man has been arrested for trying to "re-rainbow" a crosswalk just one day after crews scrubbed away the pedestrian crossing in his neighborhood to comply with a statewide directive from Governor Greg Abbott (R).

Abbott, this past October, classified such decorative markings, a majority of which centered around the Black Lives Matter movement and the alphabet mafia LGBT crew, as distracting “political messaging.”

As such, he ordered them removed.

"Texans expect their taxpayer dollars to be used wisely, not advance political agendas on Texas roadways," he announced at the time.

The city began power-washing and/or grinding away the decorative crosswalks on Monday.

Police Department May Just Have Found the Dumbest 'Hate' Crime Ever

Joseph Whiteside was allegedly armed with some rainbow paints and chalk early Tuesday morning, with the intention of bringing one LGBT crosswalk back to life.

"This morning around 3:30 a.m. — less than 24 hours after city workers destroyed the rainbow crosswalks on Cedar Springs Road at the behest of Texas’ rainbow-hating governor — Dallas police arrested a man for trying to re-rainbow the crosswalks," a report by the Dallas Voice reveals.

Fox 4 reporter Paige Ellenberger posted pictures of the arrest on her Facebook account.

Whiteside, according to Fox 4, had outlined a fresh rainbow across the pavement and planned to fill it in, prompting Dallas police to ticket him for misdemeanor graffiti.

The outlet said he remained in custody, while the Voice reports that he was allegedly being held on two outstanding misdemeanor warrants for speeding and failing to appear on the speeding charge.

It's a full-circle moment, really. How many times have we seen reports of individuals being arrested for leaving tire marks in these ridiculous rainbow crosswalks over the past several years?

Valerie Jackson, chair of the LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce Foundation, tells Fox 4 that she feels "grief" after seeing road crews remove the coveted pride crosswalks and questioned the use of "tax dollars" to have them scrubbed away.

Abbott's order is set to result in the removal of roughly 30 decorative crosswalks — including rainbow Pride and Black Lives Matter designs in the Oak Lawn neighborhood and South Dallas.

"To keep Texans moving safely and free from distraction, we must maintain a safe and consistent transportation network across Texas," he said. "Any city that refuses to comply with the federal road standards will face consequences, including the withholding or denial of state and federal road funding and suspension of agreements with TxDOT.”
