Trump 'Symbolically' Pardons Tina Peters As CO Elected Officials Lose Their Stuff. Wonder Why?

As RedState reported on Wednesday, Mesa County, Colorado, resident and former county clerk Tina Peters was convicted and sentenced to nine years in prison for her role in attempting to expose 2020 election fraud. The 70-year-old Peters is a Gold Star mom and in failing health, and activists who have taken up her cause have been requesting that President Donald Trump issue Peters a pardon. Peters' conviction is on state-level charges, and legal scholars have stated that any pardon that Trump could issue would be symbolic.

Despite these legal restrictions, on Thursday, Trump decided to post his pardon for Tina Peters on Truth Social.

For years, Democrats ignored Violent and Vicious Crime of all shapes, sizes, colors, and types. Violent Criminals who should have been locked up were allowed to attack again. Democrats were also far too happy to let in the worst from the worst countries so they could rip off American Taxpayers. Democrats only think there is one crime – Not voting for them! Instead of protecting Americans and their Tax Dollars, Democrats chose instead to prosecute anyone they can find that wanted Safe and Secure Elections. Democrats have been relentless in their targeting of TINA PETERS, a Patriot who simply wanted to make sure that our Elections were Fair and Honest. Tina is sitting in a Colorado prison for the “crime” of demanding Honest Elections. Today I am granting Tina a full Pardon for her attempts to expose Voter Fraud in the Rigged 2020 Presidential Election!

Trump is not letting anyone forget what transpired in 2020, no matter how much Democrats and some Republicans wish he would move on. Despite the fact that his presidential powers do not extend to issuing pardons at the state level, Trump's bully pulpit has served to amplify Peters' case nationally, thus keeping the 2020 election front-of-mind. Peters is the sole election official who has been imprisoned on these types of charges in what is increasingly being revealed as a flawed election. Colorado officials want to bury Peters and their role in her imprisonment under the jail. Whether this is just Trump being troller-in-chief or whether this action will have actual teeth, Colorado electeds are getting more attention than they want. How do we know this? Because everyone from the governor to the attorney general to their U.S. senator is losing their stuff and rushing to defend Peters' prosecution and sentencing.

Gov. Jared Polis was first out the gate to deem that the trial and conviction of Peters was above board and that it was a REPUBLICAN D.A. that convicted her.

Sure, Jan.

Tina Peters was convicted by a jury of her peers, prosecuted by a Republican District Attorney, and found guilty of violating Colorado state laws, including criminal impersonation. No President has jurisdiction over state law nor the power to pardon a person for state convictions. This is a matter for the courts to decide, and we will abide by court orders.

CO Democrat AG Phil Weiser, who is rumored to be mounting a gubernatorial run, is big mad, and probably big scared. Who wants to be fielding questions about the conviction of a Republican election official while trying to run for higher office? Not this guy. Suddenly, Democrats are concerned about the rule of law, and Weiser is draping himself in it.

Senator John Hickenlooper (D-CO) decided he would get in this tired jab.

And CO Secretary of State Jena Griswold, who probably has the most to lose with this greater exposure, issued this statement:

"Tina Peters was convicted by a jury of her peers for state crimes in a state Court. Trump has no constitutional authority to pardon her. His assault is not just on our democracy, but on states' rights and the American constitution."

Suddenly, Democrats care about the "American constitution," especially when they can use it to prove Trump is a dictator.

Interestingly, this "symbolic pardon" dovetails with the Department of Justice filing a lawsuit against SOS Griswold to compel the release of state voting records.

Uh oh.

Also noteworthy: Griswold is serving her last term as SOS and has ambitions to run for AG or governor. With a greater spotlight being shed on Griswold's complicity in the conviction of Peters and this recent throwdown by the DOJ, good luck with that.

The Department of Justice filed a lawsuit Thursday against Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold, in an attempt to compel the release of state voter records.

In its lawsuit, the DOJ claims Title III of the Civil Rights Act of 1960 gives the attorney general the “sweeping power” to obtain voter records and that, in the event there is a refusal to comply, the attorney general can request a federal court to issue an order directing the secretary of elections to “produce the demanded records.”

Colorado ‘will not comply’ with Trump administration’s latest request for voter data: Griswold

The DOJ further argues that both the National Voter Registration Act and Title III of the Help America Vote Act require states to “maintain and preserve” certain records and papers that fall within the scope of Section 301 of Title III of the CRA.

“Defendant (Griswold), is sued in her official capacity as chief state election official responsible for coordinating Colorado’s responsibilities under the NVRA,” the lawsuit states.

Griswold, in response to the lawsuit, issued the following statement Thursday:

“We will not hand over Coloradans’ sensitive voting information to Donald Trump. He does not have a legal right to the information. I will continue to protect our elections and democracy, and look forward to winning this case.”

As things stand, Gov. Polis or AG Weiser are the only ones who could take action to release Tina Peters from prison. Whether a commutation of her sentence or compassionate release, moving to free her could remove the glaring light from their terrible records. But that would mean they aligned with Trump, and that would be a fate worse than political death. The president has created a rock and a hard place for them, and perhaps that was the intention all along for issuing this pardon.
