US Attorneys in Sanctuary Jurisdictions Want to Sign on to Bill Essayli's 'Guardian Angel' Task Force

RedState editor Bob Hoge reported Monday on “Guardian Angel,” the brainchild of U.S. Attorney for Los Angeles Bill Essayli, who was hand-picked by President Donald Trump from the California Assembly for just this type of action and oversight. Under Guardian Angel, Essayli has organized a federal task force made up of ICE, FBI, HSI, DEA, and ATF. The combined agencies work from an office in Downtown L.A., and they do a daily scan of criminal databases that contain fingerprint identification to isolate illegal aliens jailed throughout Southern California who have previously been deported from the U.S. This moves their crime from a local law enforcement issue to the federal purview, because "illegal re-entry" is a federal felony.

As Hoge explained:

Once Essayli and Co. have determined that someone has committed a felony by re-entering the country, the whole game changes:

"As soon as the task force ID's an alien booked into a local jail who has a previous deportation, they seek a federal criminal warrant on them for felony re-entry, signed off on by a federal judge.

"Unlike an administrative ICE warrant or ICE detainer request, these criminal judicial warrants for 8 USC 1326 *CANNOT* be ignored by sanctuary jurisdictions, and California's sanctuary state law cannot shield aliens from these criminal warrants. Instead of releasing the alien inmates and ignoring ICE detainers, jails must hand the aliens over to the Feds, regardless of sanctuary policy."

On Monday, Fox News Senior Correspondent Bill Melugin aired an exclusive look at Guardian Angel in action.

Melugin reported on Tuesday that after the broadcast, Essayli said that he had been contacted by several other U.S. attorneys who oversee sanctuary jurisdictions around the country, and even ones in other regions of California. They want to sign on to implement Guardian Angel in their cities and counties.

UPDATE: US Attorney in LA Bill Essayli tells me since our report aired yesterday, he's been contacted by several other US Attorneys in sanctuary jurisdictions around the country, including CA, who are interested in taking part in this operation to "neutralize" sanctuary policies. He has calls & meetings set up to explain how to do it for other jurisdictions.

Imagine the sanctuary-loving mayors of Boston, Denver, and Chicago having the rug pulled out from under them. From their intransigence in the March Congressional hearing on this very subject, this is exactly what is needed. Melugin rightly predicts that these mayors, and their propensity to sympathize and protect criminal illegals rather than their citizens, will no longer be an issue, because the fate of these evildoers will be taken out of their hands.

Praise the Lord, and pass the ammunition.

Expect a snowball effect here - for a long time, sanctuary jurisdictions and activists have demanded of ICE "where is your warrant?!". Now, the federal plan is to "flood the system" with criminal judicial warrants which can't be ignored by local jails, and instead of just being deported, the targeted illegal aliens will now go to federal prison first - all due to lack of cooperation from sanctuary jurisdictions.

Essayli has employed some creative and powerful tools to secure the cities and protect Americans, and it is already showing success. Success that other U.S. attorneys who care about the rule of law and protecting their citizens wish to employ. Sanctuary jurisdictions that played bait and switch and tied the hands of their local law enforcement are being removed from the equation, allowing this neutralization to happen.
