Well, you have probably heard the news by now. A Manhattan grand jury has voted to indict former President Donald Trump for allegedly paying hush money to a former porn star. I’ve said before that I think New York District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who has been prosecuting this case, wears a MAGA hat behind closed doors. This development is proving me right.

The decision to indict Trump was probably the kindest gift Democrats could have given to the Orange Man What Is Bad™. Unless something radical occurs, this indictment will ensure that the former president secures the GOP presidential nomination.

The New York Times reported:

A Manhattan grand jury voted to indict Donald J. Trump on Thursday for his role in paying hush money to a porn star, according to five people with knowledge of the matter, a historic development that will shake up the 2024 presidential race and forever mark him as the nation’s first former president to face criminal charges.

An indictment will likely be announced in the coming days. By then, prosecutors working for the district attorney, Alvin L. Bragg, will have asked Mr. Trump to surrender and to face arraignment on charges that remain unknown for now.

The article notes that Bragg will likely reach out to the former president to negotiate his surrender, meaning that the nation might see Trump “being photographed and fingerprinted in the bowels of a New York State courthouse.”

The key witness in the prosecution’s case is Michael D. Cohen, who formerly served as Donald Trump’s personal fixer and was responsible for paying $130,000 to silence adult film actress Stormy Daniels. Cohen has testified that Trump instructed him to make the payment and that Trump and the Trump Organization were involved in covering up the incident. The Trump Organization’s internal records allegedly falsely categorized the reimbursement for the payment as a legal expense, which facilitated the concealment of its true purpose.

The exact charges against Trump are still unknown, but prosecutors under newly elected Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg are focusing on the hush money payment and the allegedly fraudulent records created by the Trump Organization. However, a conviction is not a foregone conclusion as combining charges related to the false records and the election violation could be based on a legal theory that has not yet been tested in court, which raises the possibility that a judge may dismiss or limit the charges. To put it simply, Bragg and his team went through all kinds of legal and mental gymnastics to target Trump with a felony.

This is not going to go the way Democrats and their close friends and allies in the activist media are hoping. As you read this, they are likely salivating at the thought of seeing Trump being led on a perp walk and sharing his mug shot on social media. But it doesn’t take a lot of smarts to understand that Democrats are being more than a little bit hasty if they think this situation is actually going to end how they want it to end.

For starters, even Mr. Magoo can see that this is nothing more than a politically-motivated effort to use the government to attack an opponent. It is abundantly clear that Democrats are trying to ensure that their candidate will not have to face Trump in the 2024 presidential election. There is no way to argue that this is an honest attempt to pursue justice; the fact that they are using legal wrangling to upgrade the charges is proof of this reality.

Secondly, with this politically-motivated indictment, Democrats have given the greatest showman in American politics today a chance to stretch his persuasion muscles. Love him or hate him, one has to admit that Trump knows how to use this whole thing to his advantage. Indeed, he and his team have already considered how they could leverage this opportunity into winning the nomination.

Indeed, earlier this month, reports suggested that Trump wanted to appear in court in handcuffs if he was indicted. Real handcuffs. Not the ones AOC pretended to be wearing.

On Truth Social, Trump has been railing against Bragg and Democrats, noting how it shows once again how the Democrats are using the government to target him. On Thursday, he released a statement savaging the left for going through with this effort.

“The Democrats have lied, cheated and stolen in their obsession with trying to ‘Get Trump,’ but now they’ve done the unthinkable,” he wrote on Truth Social. “Indicting a completely innocent person.”

He continued, noting the other times the left went after him.

“You remember it just like I do: Russia, Russia, Russia; the Mueller Hoax; Ukraine, Ukraine, Ukraine; Impeachment Hoax 1; Impeachment Hoax 2; the illegal and unconstitutional Mar-a-Lago raid; and now this,” he wrote.

This is the message Trump will continue to hammer home until this whole farce is concluded. Unless Bragg’s team has evidence of something egregious, there is no way Trump will be convicted and serve jail time for this nonsense. All Democrats did was give Trump what he needed to rile up his base, and even people outside of his base. I would wager that most who have not yet decided between Trump and DeSantis may have made up their minds now. Trump was likely to get the nomination before this, but now, I’d say it’s all but completely wrapped up in a pink bow for him. When this is all over, Trump should probably send Bragg flowers and a thank-you card.
