I swear, New York Mayor Mamdani's attempt to dress up socialism as something caring and morally superior to all other forms of governance by calling it the "warmth of collectivism" has been a gift that's kept on giving since the words oozed out of his mouth.

That was NYC DSA co-chair Gustavo Gordillo telling you that if your private small business—You know, the one that's been pushing money through the local economy, employing local workers, and elevating the community through healthy competition and innovation—happens to get steamrolled by a taxpayer-funded government-run grocery store, then get wrecked, scrub.
You probably should've just stayed on the sidelines instead of trying to fulfill your dreams and make something of yourself through your own hard work and determination. If you were smart, you would've just used the government to force the market into a fixed price using your community's money to fund it all, leaving them over-taxed and underserved.
What socialists don't seem to understand—or worse, do—is that there can be no improvement for the people through government-run industries due to the fact that state-run anything has to rely on the very customers they're taking from to stay afloat. The economic truth of the matter is that the price on the tag may stay lower than its private competitors, but not for long.
Not that it's the true price anyway, because the taxpayer is footing the bill for the product well before they step into the store. They're effectively buying the product twice, and that's if they shop there. If they don't, they're still buying it at least once.
And without competition to inspire innovation and efficiency, the state-run industry becomes corrupt, overly bureaucratic, and unforgiveably wasteful, all of which costs the taxpayer on the back end and, if history tells us anything, the cost skyrockets on the front end too.
Go back and check out any state that engaged in this kind of state participation in the private sector, and you'll see the results are always the same. Venezuela's money is worth more as kindling than currency, and the government's idea of a grand reward for soldiers who go above and beyond is to give them toilet paper, a rare and precious commodity.
That's just basic economics. I'm a high school dropout who never took an economics class in his life, and I can still understand that. In fact, I think it's odd that people who spent far more time in the school system and spent thousands on getting higher levels of education have no sense of this logic.
My mother put it very succinctly to me when I was young: "Money doesn't grow on trees."
But what I think is more interesting is that the people who support the idea that the little guy needs protecting hear words like the ones spoken by Gordillo above and don't hear the callousness, not just in his character, but in the ideology he represents.
Socialism doesn't care about you. The only thing it's concerned with is the upkeep of power for the ruling party. Time tells all, and millions have died thanks to the toasty embrace of warm collectivism. That warmth is goodwill and togetherness. The warmth you're feeling is hellfire.
You'll burn, because they need something to power the machine. You can either walk in willingly or at the point of a gun. That's the way it always ends when the respective state doesn't pull back on it.
Gordillo, in his way, is telling you exactly what you mean to these people in power. You're nothing. A number. You are not a person with hopes and dreams, ambitions and individuality. You're a calculation that can and should be reduced or deleted if it assists the Party's hold on the state.
This is what he thinks, it's what Mamdani thinks, it's what AOC thinks, it's what Bernie thinks, and it's what the cult that is the DSA thinks. We have all of history to prove their mentality, and I'm afraid too many people aren't ever going to learn that history until it becomes their present.
