When Alysa Liu won the gold medal for figure skating and displayed a graceful beauty mixed with raw charm, America went nuts for her. There was a 24-hour period where, no matter what social media platform I accessed, one of the first things that popped up — and kept popping up — was Liu.
Conservatives were especially enamored with her because they loved her story, or rather, the story that led to her gold medal moment. Her father was a Chinese immigrant who fled the country to escape communism long ago. He'd participated in the Tiananmen Square protests and came to America to start a life in freedom and prosperity.
Years later, his daughter delivered a fantastic figure skating routine for the country he fled to, winning two gold medals for the U.S. He was in the crowd cheering for her, U.S. flag in hand, as she celebrated her victory.
But every time a conservative would post about her, leftists would angrily claim her because she's "woke." According to an interview she gave not long ago, she says "immigrants should have rights" and that she "attended protests." When Amber Glenn, a woman who used her Olympic platform to spew her own politics, posted to Instagram that "2 woke bitches" won in the Olympics, the left took that as permission to claim Liu from top to bottom.

But if you look at the right's response to this, the average clapback is "so?"
We don't care about her politics. Political disagreement alone shouldn't turn someone into your enemy. It's definitely not something you should hate someone for.
But the left can't seem to escape this black-and-white thinking. If it smells even a little bit, as if it could belong to the center-right, then it has to be destroyed. Even if it's a left-leaning person who gets a little too friendly with people on the right or tries to have good-faith conversations with them, they are evil.
Liu went to the Olympics, performed like a dream, and all the while, never forced anyone to choose a political side. She kept that to herself and represented her country with pride. It wasn't a political moment, and she didn't treat it like one. She was there to compete for herself, her father, and the United States. That's all we needed. That's all that mattered.
But the rage the left exhibited online for right-leaning people to even give her applause and praise was overwhelming. They were being unapologetically territorial regarding Liu. Even Kamala Harris's ridiculous "HQ" posted about it.

I truly believe that this shows you just how desperate the left is for anyone with some sort of societal weight to be "theirs."
As it stands, I don't see many people who get taken seriously standing up for the left in any meaningful way. I mean, sure, you get the average Hollywood celebrity speaking out on behalf of leftist ideals, but Hollywood's moral currency is so depleted they're taking out loans to continue indulging in their false sense of superiority.
Then, Democrat politicians continue to embarrass themselves at every turn. Polling continues to stack against them on the issues they say they care about, and they do their absolute best to hammer on what they see as weaknesses in the Republican line that end up not being weaknesses at all.

From what I can gather, they're pushing so hard for Liu to be theirs because they have nobody. Conservatives look at Liu and don't care if she's MAGA, or woke, or none of the above. She's a talented patriot, and that's all we need.
But the left needs so much more. They not only need her to be "woke" just like them, but they need people who aren't them to hate her just like they hate us. They want us to rage about her, disown her, and consider her an outcast because that's what they consider socially valuable.
And what kind of a sick existence is that? Not only do they want to hate and be hated for differences, but they will work to make sure an innocent person is hated, with or without their consent.
The left is truly demented.
