As Graham Platner Is on the Edge of Farewell Do Not Forget Names of the Swan-Diving Rats Who Defended Him

We have to admit; we are going to miss Graham Platner. While he is not technically out of the race for the Senate just yet, things are all but cast in stone. At this point, his electability is merely the body being sustained until all the organs can be apportioned appropriately. The mad mob rush of Democrats to flee from his mushroom cloud prospects rivals fathers at a toy store opening on Christmas Eve.

What's amusing in all of this is how this very plot was called well ahead of time. It was back in May when I suggested that we would see Platner win the primary, then deeply troubling news would break. He would be forced out by the party, and we would watch as scrambling then takes place to have someone else inserted on the ticket before the deadline later this month. That very scenario appears to be playing out.

Report: Platner Seeking 'Guarantee' Before Exiting Race As Replacement Buzz Grows

I bring this up not to say I am a political savant. Hardly. But it is said to show how deeply obvious it was that this guy was an untenable entity for the party that tried to slip in a nobody who would turn a Senate seat blue and serve as an obedient check box for the Democrats.

Once he became an indefensible disaster, then Plan-D had to be employed. [PLAN-A: Run Janet Mills against Susan Collins / PLAN-B: Replace the unelectable Mills with a controllable mannequin candidate / PLAN-C: Try gaslighting the public that Platner’s issues were not a problem / PLAN-D: Find ANYONE ELSE who might earn Democrat votes.]

How do you not enjoy a guy who continues to rack up the disqualifying details? Platner’s campaign resembles the garbage can in a frat house that no one is willing to empty; instead, the garbage stacks up over the rim like a Jenga pile of offal until the inevitable collapse.

This was all a self-created problem by the Democrat elites. Platner was entirely a prefab candidate. He had zero political experience, little in the way of local traction, and no genuine local history to inspire the gentry. The party crafted a bio for the guy that the press played along with, which was the inverse of the Kamala Harris fabrication. In her case, the resume was about negation (“She was never appointed border czar,” “She was not a major player in the Afghanistan withdrawal,” “Kamala is the candidate of change, even as she is the current office holder," etc.), but with Platner, they needed to build an entirely new character.

This was the initial appeal; Platner was seen as a whiteboard upon which they could craft any resume that they desired – and conveniently erase problematic details. Thus, he became a hardscrabble blue-collar oyster farmer, a self-made man of the people. But in this desire to fabricate his backstory, they did not look into his actual past. As a result, they promoted an ill-tempered mook with few social skills and operating with trust-fund support while displaying few skills beyond an ability to read a script at news conferences.

Then he devolved before their eyes, and for the better part of the past year we have been delivered a steady stream of excuse-making and recalibration.

Look, we KNOW the Democrats will back anyone and say anything in their perpetual opposition to President Trump. Defeating him and acquiring power are the traits they wake up with every day. However, it has been with sheer amusement that we watched the press completely compromise their integrity to excuse any of the major problems Der Oysterfuhrer brought forward.

  • Nazi tattoos are an acceptable mistake someone can have…for nearly two decades.
  • Praising Hamas in a terror attack was not supporting their cause, just an appreciation of the military tactics employed.
  • A GOP representative was commanded to step down because of something a DJ said on the air, all while excuses were offered when Platner sat in on a supremacist’s podcast.

These, and many other contortions of standards played out in the media. Today the contortions continue, as those who strove to promote this train going off the trestle of a candidate now have to extract themselves from the wreckage.

At The Bulwark, they have the Herculean task of attempting to absolve themselves of the months spent promoting the man for the Senate who would fail an interview as a Wal-Mart door greeter.

That will be a near impossibility. Two months ago, Longwell was explaining the need to keep Platner on the ticket. Andrew Eggers saw fit to wave away a death camp tattoo worn for two decades. Tim Miller said Platner was the tool Democrats needed to win back the working class. The best, however, was when J.V. Last was selling the concept of Platner rising to the top of the Democrats – FOR PRESIDENT IN 2028

Today, fittingly for the crew with a schooner on its masthead, they have all become rodents making a swan dive into the drink, as the Bad Ship Platner has hit a reef. (For roughly the 7th time.)

CNN was in Maine recently and only found fawning voters, as today they have to eat crow omelettes about Platner being pressured heavily.

For some real amusement, there is Obama Bro Jon Favreau. He was not only a willing source to rehab Platner when his Nazi ink was revealed, but he went on later to tout the man’s character as sterling and above reproach. This morning, he is trying to sound full of character as he tosses Platner over the proverbial transom.

Best, however, is on “Morning Joe,” where they grilled Adam Wren, from Politico, over the accuracy of his story that seems to have broken the support system for Platner. They are incapable of accepting the obvious, and instead it is time to shoot the messenger.

This is what the media have rendered themselves into as a result. The blatantly partisan need to see a Democrat take a position in the Senate meant that compromising themselves was a worthwhile endeavor. Do not let them forget what they were promoting, and as a result, admit what they stand for.
