The state of the Democrat Party is one on par with that of an embittered teenager. If they are not getting their way, it is not enough to throw a snit fit; they also see a need to make life just as irritating for others. And so, much like a petulant goth adolescent needing to impart misery, the Dems are content to make air travel in this country about as ponderous and repellent as resorting to a bus depot.
The Senate Dems forcing a partial funding block are using the same playbook that they cracked open last fall with the broader shutdown: Alter the legislation, try a gambit of suspending the rules, generate continued failure of funding, and then blame this all on the GOP with the help of a compliant press corps. But these being Democrats, their attempts fail in the face of common sense, so of course, they are trying it again.
The first challenge is the lightly reported reality that the Department of Homeland Security funding bill was already passed by the House, and the Senate GOP has voted to pass this. So any stalling in the passage falls on the back of the donkeys. Then they wanted to piecemeal the bill and fund only select agencies under the DHS banner, like they were a dinner party of teachers trying to itemize the dinner check.

Chuck Schumer even tried to bypass Senate procedures and force through his carved-up policy via the Rules Committee. This was also voted down by party lines, but it allowed sites like The Hill to then say, “Republicans reject Democrats’ effort to fund TSA.”
While all this chicanery was playing out, families were subjected to ponderous Bataan Marches at airports, with wait times longer than an Oscar-nominated drama as lines stretched to the parking lots. So, with TSA agents calling in or outright quitting, a rather inspired solution emerged.
Over the weekend, it was decided that ICE agents would be deployed to fill in for those missing TSA workers, and the resulting cranial mushroom clouds from Democrats were a sight to behold. Complaints were that the ICE agents were not properly trained, because crowd control is an acquired skill.
Obviously, sheer desperation was on display. To see prominent politicians coming out to say that this decision was going to lead to murders taking place in terminals should illustrate the level of rational thinking from that party.
Nothing says you are the calm and lucid thinkers in your party when you declare that seeing ICE agents in airports will lead to deaths.

Of course, if they really believed this, they would vote to fund TSA and get those murderers out of airports, but then... pic.twitter.com/s4Z2y3EhTV
As an aside, it may very well be that this ploy to send in ICE came not from a quorum of White House insiders, but from a much more pragmatic source: talk radio. It was on Friday when a caller to the Buck Sexton and Clay Travis show suggested bringing in the ICE agents, and within a day, the plan was in motion. Credence to this was seen when President Trump gave thanks and signed a hat for the caller who crafted the idea.
So as these agents were sent into select airports, two things occurred. The first was the expected pushback to pragmatism, as protesters assembled at some airports to complain about working to alleviate the problem. The plan to bring ICE in was hatched by the administration over the weekend, and right on cue, protesters showed up on Monday — on time, as flights were delayed.
What more proof do we need that the Democrats want this strife inflicted on Americans than groups gathering on the fly, with matching placards, complaining that something was done to fix a generated problem? So the Left will not pony up money for government workers, but they have the funds to get protesters on site with printed signs at the drop of an email.
The second thing to take place will really drive Democrats, the press, and the Leftists even further out on the lunatic precipice: It is working. Within hours of the ICE agents arriving in support roles, wait times at airports plunged, as things returned to a level of normalcy. Don’t be alarmed by that concussion sound you heard; that was the Democrat plot being blasted into confetti.

So, when even CNN is reporting on the positive effects, where does this leave the opposition party today? The Dems say they want to have TSA funded and running, but only on their terms. And the agency they are desperate to defund is doing the labor of the workers the Democrats have permanently run off, so if they actually got their way, it would reduce things back to where they were last week, with a depleted TSA and air travel mired so it resembled the quality seen of cattle loaded into semi haulers.
This funding battle should end soon enough in a similar surrender as that seen last fall, as the Democrats' plan of "deICE-ing airports" instead sees their strategy becoming grounded. Next will be to see how much this will become a no-fly issue with voters.
