Markwayne Mullin’s confirmation hearing to lead the Department of Homeland Security should be a serious deliberation on how to secure a porous border and restore morale to a beleaguered department. Instead, it was treated by Senate Democrats as yet another proxy war against President Trump.
This partisan framing serves the interests of the D.C. donor class and cable news pundits, but it fails the American people, who are far less interested in "gotcha" questions than they are in a simple, fundamental reality: a nation without a border is not a nation.
Mullin is exactly the kind of outsider DHS needs. He isn’t a product of the administrative state; he’s a former plumbing contractor, a collegiate wrestler, and an MMA fighter who knows that results matter more than rhetoric. Having represented Oklahoma in Congress, he understands the frustration of Heartland Americans who see their tax dollars being spent on agencies that, for years, seemed more interested in "processing" illegal entries than stopping them.

Critics point to his bluntness and his unwavering support for the president’s border mandate as liabilities. On the contrary, in a department often paralyzed by bureaucracy, Mullin’s clarity of purpose is his greatest asset.

The hearings took place against the backdrop of a shameful political gambit. For over a month, Democrats have held DHS funding hostage, demanding radical restrictions on ICE and CBP—including bans on basic enforcement tools — as a ransom for keeping the lights on.
This manufactured crisis has forced TSA officers and Border Patrol agents to work without pay, straining our national security for the sake of an anti-enforcement agenda. Republicans are right to hold the line: National security should never be a bargaining chip for those seeking to defund or "reform" the law out of existence.
🚨 BREAKING: Sen. John Fetterman just paid a RESPECTFUL compliment to Sen. Markwayne Mullin during his DHS Secretary nomination hearing:

“My experience with you has been consistent kindness and professionalism.”

Much has been made of the tragic incidents in Minneapolis involving Renee Good and Alex Pretti. While any loss of life is a cause for reflection, the left has used these isolated flashes of conflict to unfairly demonize the entire federal law enforcement community. No conservative argues for a lack of accountability. Mullin himself has signaled a willingness to embrace modern transparency tools like body cameras and independent reviews. But we must distinguish between genuine oversight and the "lawfare" being waged by activists who want to make the job of an ICE officer legally impossible. Supporting the thin blue line means ensuring that when officers follow their training to protect the public, the Department has their back.

Mullin’s mission is clear: He must pivot DHS away from the "micromanagement" of the previous months and back toward its core mission of enforcement and disaster response. He has already shown a pragmatic streak, pledging to restructure FEMA rather than eliminate it, and focusing on empowering the men and women on the front lines. He doesn't need to apologize for believing that the law should mean what it says.
TRUMP’S DHS PICK IS IN THE HOT SEAT.

Markwayne Mullin used his confirmation hearing to push for DHS funding and said, “We have to set the partisan side down.”
He also vowed to end “micromanaging.” https://t.co/UGR68W5DwR
The Senate should move swiftly to confirm Mullin. If the left’s litmus test for a DHS Secretary is a refusal to deport those here illegally, then no nominee from a law-and-order administration will ever be "qualified" in their eyes.
The true measure of Mullin’s success will be whether he can secure the border, protect our cities, and manage his department with the same toughness and common sense he brought to the wrestling mat and the boardroom. It’s time to stop the grandstanding and let him get to work.
