Democrats are jubilant, and in their minds, resurgent. After decades of pushing the envelope, they have finally elected their communist dream, and his name is Zohran Mamdani.
The Ugandan-born nepo baby who had previously never held a real job (no, his failed rap career doesn't count) is now the mayor of New York City, the financial center of the world. Touted as the new face of the party, Mamdani has previously proclaimed his support for seizing the means of production, buying up all private property to turn it into communes, defunding the police, establishing government-owned grocery stores, and making the buses free. That he's also an ardent Islamist who believes the real victims of 9/11 were Muslims is arguably even more disturbing.
But to this point, there's been one saving grace that people thought they could hold onto. Namely, the fact that tax policy is set at the state level and that he also has to go through a large city council to implement his wild-eyed policies. Unfortunately, what that didn't account for is that Democrats are self-serving cowards.

“So long as some of the new revenue would be applied to tax relief for working-class New Yorkers, I’m open to very modest increases on millionaires,” said state Sen. James Skoufis (D-Orange) from the Hudson Valley.
He did not comment specifically on the proposed tax increase on corporations.
Sen. Liz Krueger (D-Manhattan), who chairs the powerful finance committee and endorsed Mamdani in September, said she’s keeping an open mind.
The problem with expecting "normal" Democrats to step in and constrain Mamdani is that normal Democrats do not exist. There are only those on the far left and who will bend the knee to them to save their own skin. Mamdani's victory was a shot across the bow, showing that the laughably named Democratic Socialists of America now have the power to make or break people within the party. If the establishment couldn't restrain him from winning, they aren't going to be able to restrain him from putting their heads on a political spike if he so chooses.
That means the supposed bulwark of state-level Democrats is nothing but a mirage. They are going to fall in line because their political futures rely on them doing so. That includes New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D), who will need Mamdani's coalition to win re-election in 2026 against Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY). Those tax hikes are a forgone conclusion at this point, as is all the stuff Mamdani wants to spend it on.
This is the problem with letting the camel's nose under the tent. The far left is like a virus that overtakes everything it touches. Mamdani is their foothold on the beach, and now reinforcements and supplies are going to pour in. Weak-kneed Democrats were never going to stand their ground because they value their political careers over the people they serve. Even then, a majority of the people they serve (in New York City) voted for the communist. They are going to want their pound of flesh in return, and the will to oppose that will continue to dwindle.
In short, New York is cooked, and the Democratic Party is about to have a "hold my beer" moment regarding its radicalism.
Editor’s Note: The Schumer Shutdown is here. Rather than put the American people first, Chuck Schumer and the radical Democrats forced a government shutdown for healthcare for illegals. They own this.
