Rep. Nancy Pelosi appeared on CNN on Wednesday to talk about the issues of the day, and her answers were so off the wall that even Dana Bash had to push back multiple times.
The so-called "Speaker Emerita," which is a made-up position Democrats gave her before handing over control of Congress in January of 2023, bumbled and stumbled her way through the interview. Was she drunk again? Is this just the state of her mental fortitude at this point? I don't know, but Pelosi remains a testament to why most people in their 80s have no business holding political office.

CNN: Republicans are voting YES to open the government. Democrats are voting NO. So how are they shutting down the government?

PELOSI: It's not a clean CR!
BASH: What's not clean?

The whole licking and sucking on her lips during public appearances has become a common tic for Pelosi, but regardless, let's deal with the merits of her argument. Is the continuing resolution that was passed by the House and that has been voted on six times now in the Senate "clean?" The answer is simple: Yes.
There is not a single poison pill, Republican priority, or excess provision attached to the proposed CR. It is, by definition, clean. What it doesn't do is extend a variety of Democrat priorities that were always supposed to be temporary, including Obamacare subsidies enacted during COVID-19. Bash should have kept pressing Pelosi on her lies instead of letting her ramble off in other directions, but that'd be asking too much from CNN.
The facts are not in doubt. Democrats filibustered a clean CR and shut down the government. Republicans continue to offer a clean CR as a resolution to the shutdown. No amount of Pelosi nervously sucking on her lips is going to change
Jay Jones, the embattled Democrat nominee for attorney general in Virginia, also came up. Instead of condemning him, Pelosi offered her support and suggested that he's still better "on balance" than current (and successful) AG Jason Miyares.
CNN: "The Democrat candidate for Attorney General in Virginia said a Republican deserved two bullets in his head... Should he get out of the race?"

Yeah, I mean, other than the whole wishing to see his political opponents and their children murdered thing, Jones is just fine. Well, that and him scamming a court to use his community service sentence to promote his own campaign after getting a sweetheart deal for driving 116mph, an offense that normally requires a year in prison. Okay, and we should probably consider that he lied about his trial experience and wished for cops to be murdered, too. But other than all of that, he's fine, according to "Speaker Emerita" Nancy Pelosi.
With her answer to the Jay Jones question in mind, watch this next clip.
Pelosi: Saying that the governor and the mayor should be imprisoned? Come on, be presidential. Mr. President, honor the office you serve in. Don't be so deranged

So let me get this straight. It is completely out of bounds and "deranged" for President Donald Trump to suggest mayors and governors who break the law should be imprisoned, but Jay Jones wanting to murder children doesn't rise to the level for Pelosi? Does anyone else see the laughable contradiction there? Obviously, Bash didn't, because she didn't bring it up, but that's to be expected.
That brings me to the end of the interview, where Pelosi interjected to make one more point that she apparently thought was absolutely genius.
Pelosi: Nobody has lied more to congress than Donald Trump. And that's why I tore up his speech, because it was a manifesto of lies. So it's so cute, almost, that he's accusing somebody of lying to congress.

Bash: Obviously, he wasn't under oath.
Pelosi: Doesn’t matter. He's… pic.twitter.com/I2mWactXxm
I understand the idea of positive thinking, but something does not become true just because Pelosi lathers her lips up and proclaims it. Putting aside that she points out none of the supposed lies Trump told during that State of the Union speech, it does matter if someone was under oath in regards to the crime of lying to Congress.
