Here's a bit of a Monday surprise for you. MSNBC is getting a new name, and it has everyone rolling on the floor.
According to multiple reports, the far-left cable news network is being jettisoned by NBC News and will now be called "MSNOW." Yes, apparently, there are consultants out there who get paid large sums of money to come up with stuff like this. It's good work if you can get it.

NEW: @MSNBC to rebrand to MS NOW

— As part of Versant spinout changes, CNBC, Golf Channel, GolfNow, MSNBC and SportsEngine, will all drop the iconic peacock logo that has for decades served as NBCU's logo@Axios https://t.co/q6YuyPbzUd
This comes as part of a larger restructure that will see several NBC properties detach from the legacy branding, including the iconic peacock logo. MS NOW, which stands for "my sources for news, opinion, and the world," will also see its long-relied-on partnership with NBC News end. The latter has long provided reporters and news hits to MSNBC in order to keep up the facade of impartiality. Of course, NBC News itself is a hotbed for left-wing coverage, so I wouldn't say that change is going to mean much.
Still, it means MSNBC has to go out and hire a lot more of its own reporters and staff, something that is already happening as they rush to prepare for the changeover later this year. That will mean the network has to be more financially independent instead of operating on what were essentially subsidies from NBC News to fill out its coverage. That's especially true internationally, where it can be very costly to keep reporters and newsrooms operating across a variety of countries.
Color me skeptical that all of this translates to long-term financial viability for MSNBC when it becomes MSNOW. It seems obvious that NBC News wants to get the network out of its immediate vicinity and put it in a position to be sold if things come to that. I also suspect NBC News, as left-wing as it is, was getting tired of being tied to the hip of the absolute lunatics who populate MSNBC's line-up.
Back to the name itself, though. That's the best they could come up with? Keep in mind, the "MS" in MSNBC stands for Microsoft, which sold its stake in the network back in 2012. So they are getting rid of the NBC part, which they are still technically affiliated with, but are keeping the Microsoft part?
Brilliant. Just brilliant.
People are paid incredibly high salaries to come up with MSNBC >>> MSNOW?

the Irony: @CNN is on life support as ratings sink to middle earth. @NBCNews Hey, lets just disown our far left vanity project and call it @MSNOW?

I will give them this, though. Making the background blue is at least an honest tip of the cap to their Democrat-filled audience. I'm not sure how it's possible, but with this move, you can expect MSNBC, excuse me, MSNOW to become even crazier. If you thought Nicolle Wallace and Rachel Maddow were bad before, just wait until they have no one from NBC News breathing down their necks.
