What's political about a broadly popular Hollywood actress doing an ad campaign for jeans? You're answer is probably nothing, but then you'd be underestimating how talented the left is at turning absolute nothingness into total hysteria.
This story's actually been running laps on social media for several days. As the accusations go, because Sydney Sweeney is white and has blue eyes, the use of the pun "good jeans" in the American Eagle ad is supposedly a nazi dog-whistle. No, I'm not kidding.

Mega-viral TikTok videos with millions of views are, in near-unison, accusing American Eagle and Sydney Sweeney of "Nazi shit," "fascist propaganda," and "literal Eugenics."

... over a jeans commercial that made a pun about "genes" and "jeans."
I'll break it down on today's… pic.twitter.com/Qdv3RiISi4
Still, I had largely ignored the story to this point. After all, left-wingers say idiotic stuff online all the time. Then I saw this headline from The Washington Post.
American Eagle’s provocative new denim campaign featuring actress Sydney Sweeney leans into retro sexiness — and it’s sparking debate about eugenics and “wokeness.”

Our style reporters discuss the ad campaign and why it’s broken the internet: https://t.co/3CCxKyEqou
This is an actual paragraph published by the Washington Post, in which one of the Post's style writers seems to suggest American Eagle's Sydney Sweeney ad campaign is actually a racist DHS dog whistle.

Really great journalism, guys! pic.twitter.com/J0pBWJjMFg
As it turns out, that wasn't an isolated bit of coverage. The idea that American Eagle is a racist company signaling its desire for white supremacist "eugenics" has gone viral throughout the mainstream press.

I'm at a loss. Do Democrats like losing elections? Is their goal to get on the wrong side of every 80/20 issue in existence to prove to American voters that they are as insufferable as they appear to be? Because if that was the goal, what would they be doing differently?
Is "good jeans" meant to be a pun in the ad? Sure, but so what? Sweeney is someone who is considered broadly attractive, which is why you put her in an ad campaign in the first place. The fact that she's blonde and has blue eyes does not suddenly make that a nazi dog whistle, though it does operate as a dog whistle for mentally ill left-wingers who recoil in horror at anything resembling traditional Americana.
This entire episode is instructive in that it shows just how far gone the let is when it comes to stuff like this. With the reelection of Donald Trump, DEI and wokeness have taken a major hit, but don't kid yourself. Our institutions, including the press, are still inundated with people who see race and "fascism" under every bed. They aren't going to give up in the face of well-deserved mockery, and the moment Democrats regain power, they'll be there pushing the same insanity, only even harder.
