What's the antidote for a president whose approval rating is lower than a professional limbo player? Trotting out Karine Jean-Pierre, of course, and she was on her game on Wednesday.

When pressed on whether Joe Biden would participate in a debate with Donald Trump, the world's greatest press secretary delivered this coherent, not-at-all absurd answer in which she cited that the president faced hecklers during his last State of the Union speech.
Doocy: “So, just for clarity, it's possible that there will be no Joe Biden-Donald Trump debates this fall?”

Doocy: “I would love to see —”
KJP: “Because you keep asking me.

DOOCY: How would President Biden do in a debate? I'm not asking a question about a specific debate. I'm just...

JEAN-PIERRE: You literally saw just last year, back in January 2023 at the last State of the Union, take on Republicans during, giving a major speech. He took them on as they were heckling him. He took ‘em on and said he was going to fight for programs, essentially said he was fighting for programs that the American people needed. Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, he stood there and fought for the American people. I mean, that was pretty impressive. Some of y’all reported on that.
I'm sorry, what? Or for the too online among us, "wut?" How is Biden reading off a teleprompter during a few seconds of someone heckling him comparable to an unscripted debate with a political opponent? That makes no sense whatsoever, and Jean-Pierre, who keeps a binder of answers always at hand, couldn't come up with anything better. How she keeps her job is one of the great mysteries of our era.
The real answer is that Biden can't debate because he no longer has the mental acuity to do so. This is a guy who needs size 50 font to read a speech, and he still can't do it without a series of verbal fumbles. On a good day, those fumbles are just uncomfortable to watch. On a bad day, Biden manages to almost cause an international crisis by claiming he's going to airdrop aid into Ukraine when he meant Gaza.
When pressed further about the ongoing public perception that Biden's advanced age is hampering him, Jean-Pierre had this to say.
KARINE JEAN-PIERRE on Biden's age:

"This is also a president that has gotten done more in the last three years than most presidents have in their two terms! That is what we've seen from the data!" pic.twitter.com/b8BoKxWg1i
Exactly what data is she citing? Because the data says cumulative inflation over Biden's term has caused prices to rise nearly 20 percent, crushing American families. The data also says that the worst border crisis in the nation's history is still unfolding. Where is this girth of accomplishments she's alluding to?
But hey, if that doesn't convince you everything is fine, perhaps Jean-Pierre being smug will change your mind.
Karine Jean-Pierre doubles down on her absurd claim that @SpeakerJohnson is "giving aid to Russia" by demanding a secure border pic.twitter.com/0zmnN9XEJp

There it is. We all knew it was coming. When the going gets tough, just shout about Russia. It's a tried and true strategy for Democrats everywhere. Of course, doesn't that logic apply to Biden himself? Isn't he "giving aid to Russia" by not just securing the border so that Ukraine funding can pass? Given that solving the border crisis is actually a worthwhile endeavor, I'd say the logic doesn't just apply to Biden but that it applies exclusively to him.
No matter, though. Jean-Pierre has diagnosed the real reason Americans are giving the president such low marks.

Yes, I'm sure that's it. In Biden's fourth year in office, the problem is simply a lack of information. If only Americans knew "where we are and what's going on," the president would be cruising to re-election.
Let me suggest an alternative: Americans know exactly what Biden is doing and they hate it. Perhaps Jean-Pierre should worry about that more than insulting everyone's intelligence on a near-daily basis.
