Los Angeles Mayoral candidate and city councilwoman Nithya Raman is getting jettisoned from her post as the city’s Housing and Homelessness Committee chair, and she’s blaming her opponent, incumbent Mayor Karen Bass.
Although they are both hurling angry claims at each other for the never-ending homelessness crisis, neither of them has anything to brag about here because they’ve both been abject failures. Did anyone really think appointing a woke Democratic Socialist — Raman — to a homeless committee would solve the problem?
In fact, she spearheaded a $62.6 million housing initiative that placed a total of three households, according to reports.
Although Raman is blaming the mayor for her removal, it’s actually being engineered by City Council President and Bass ally Marqueece Harris-Dawson, who is reportedly going to announce a split of the council’s homelessness committee into two entities this week — and Nithya won’t chair either of them.
The two combatants are now at each other’s throats and engaging in a public tussle that leaves neither side looking good. It’s frankly beautiful to watch as they inadvertently but relentlessly expose the failed politics of “progressivism,” which has brought the state to its knees with the assistance of Mr. No Principles Himself, Gov. Gavin Newsom.
Raman lashed out on social media Monday and said that it wasn’t her failure to accomplish anything significant in the post that caused her to be tossed; it’s because Bass is punishing her.

Angelenos have been paying the price for many years now, Nithya, and as your own failed council district (CD4) shows, you have not been part of the solution. If only we could have had Spencer Pratt, whose primary lead over Raman magically evaporated in the days after the election.

Spencer Pratt Levels Both Karen Bass and Nithya Raman With Common Sense and Humor
Although Raman talked big in her above video about the tremendous efforts she’s supposedly undertaken, Bass fired back, saying Raman’s tenure has been a fiasco:
“Nithya Raman canceled committee meetings for weeks, didn’t show up to votes, and failed to deliver on building more housing or getting people off the streets,” said Alex Stack, a campaign spokesperson for Bass.
“Her signature program has been a failure, spending over $60 million for nearly a year but only filling 3 apartments. Karen Bass approached these crises with urgency, cleaning up over 120 encampments and unlocking 100,000 new homes.”
The Trump administration has noticed the dysfunction in Tinseltown and has yanked funds from the very dubious Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA), which seems to mainly act as a money vacuum, as RedState editor Jennifer Van Laar has reported extensively.
Federal investigators found LAHSA failed to verify nearly 2,300 housing sites it was responsible for overseeing, while roughly 70% of contracts tied to those sites showed no reported spending during the previous year.
Raman’s committee nevertheless approved another $358 million for LAHSA in this year’s budget because City Hall still lacked the infrastructure to replace it. Raman has argued the turmoil validates her push for stronger city oversight.
It’s not the only leftist political war going down in the Golden State right now as politicians strive to see who can out-woke each other. As I reported Monday, outgoing Rep. Nancy Pelosi (CA-11) is currently in a nasty brawl with the extremist who wants to take her seat, state Sen. Scott Wiener (CA-11), over an AI chatbot that video Nancy trashed as “racist” and “sexist.” I have been stocking up on extra popcorn and Red Vines.
The city of LA currently has approximately 45,000 homeless people, and the number jumps to 73,000 if you account for the whole of Los Angeles County. Although it had been seeing a slight downward trend in recent years, the rate for street dwellers rose by eight percent in 2026 — this despite billions upon billions being thrown at the problem.
Neither one of these leftie ladies has anything to brag about.
