Sure, It's 'Legal' – but Americans Still Feel Gut-Punched and Face Slapped by CA's Goat Rodeo Vote Count

It seems insane to any rational human that election results from the day that voting formally concluded in California aren’t worth the paper they were printed on. Here we are in 2026, with artificial intelligence, two plus centuries of Democracy, and automated vote-counting machines, and yet, in the Golden State, it feels like we’re living in the 12th century.

On Sunday, a full five days after the polls supposedly closed, democratic socialist Nithya Raman pulled ahead of independent Pacific Palisades fire victim Spencer Pratt in the Los Angeles mayoral race.

First Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli has been looking into the possibilities of voter fraud, but unless he uncovers something extremely significant, that’s not the problem. The issue is that this Keystone Cop idiocy is baked into the cake, as I’ve written about, and the progressive (Marxist) Democratic supermajority has purposefully created this system.

It’s not necessarily that the laws have been broken — it’s that the laws are utterly ludicrous and a shining symbol of how the Left in America has so trampled upon basic notions of democracy, order, and logic.

In California, your vote can show up a full seven days after “election day” — a term that is meaningless because it’s at a minimum “election month” now — and it will still be counted if it was postmarked on or before the end date. Even worse, 14 other states allow these late ballots, but California’s policy is one of the most generous and seems to affect elections more often because of the sheer number of voters in the state.

Although it’s infuriating to see Pratt’s onetime lead over Raman slowly evaporate, it’s actually not that uncommon in deep-blue California:

In 2018, for instance, Republican Young Kim was leading her opponent for the race for California's 39th Congressional District and appeared to beat Democrat Gil Cisneros. She even went to Washington, D.C., to attend freshman-member orientation. Weeks later, the count was revised, and her win was ripped from her hands.

Is this goat rodeo what Thomas Jefferson and George Washington set out to create?

Does this seem like a normally functioning, fair democracy to you?

As our Nick Arama wrote Sunday, President Donald Trump is disgusted with the banana republic-style shenanigans. This isn’t what The Founders envisioned. He was so repulsed by the failing state’s machinations that he stormed out of an interview conducted by yet another leftist apologist from the mainstream media:

Trump tore into the bad electoral process and how bad the press was about covering any of it. He explained how, days later, the races were closing in California. She didn't seem to know that, and she said that's how they count the votes there.

RedState’s Jennifer Oliver O’Connell has also been opining on how the slippery practices of the California Democrats need to be closely examined:

It's About Time: California's Voting and Counting Procedures Are Getting Fresh Scrutiny

Whether there’s been actual widespread fraud is a question without a determinative answer at this point, and I am not claiming that there was. No, what I’m saying is that this far-left system in California has created the appearance of corruption, and the woke rush to push for “accessibility” at the ballots — which, let’s just be honest, has not been a serious issue for years — has led to such a total disregard for standards that almost nobody with a brain trusts state election officials anymore. Whether cheating takes place — and we know that it does — is almost the secondary issue. The system that Democrats created leaves millions feeling sucker-punched, defrauded, lied to, and disenfranchised.

To paraphrase the Back Street Boys (for no other reason than that it fits well), “That’s cuz they wanted it that way.”
