Terrifying Video of Apartment Building Collapse Emerges As Monster 7.4 Quake Rocks Colombia

Terrifying — and heartbreaking — footage is coming out of Colombia after a 7.4-magnitude earthquake rocked the South American country on Monday. It comes on the heels of twin earthquakes in neighboring Venezuela in June that caused widespread damage and loss of life, although seismologists say the events are unrelated.

Here’s what we know:

At least 111 people are dead in Colombia after an earthquake of 7.4 in magnitude rocked the western part of the country, authorities said
The quake's epicenter was near San José del Palmar, in sparsely populated Chocó province on the Pacific coast
The highest reported death toll was in the western province of Risaralda in the country's coffee-growing region
The mayor of Cali, one of Colombia's largest cities, said people remained trapped under the rubble after more than two dozen structures collapsed
The quake struck just days after Abelardo De La Espriella was sworn in as president

Heart-stopping images and videos of the disaster are now emerging, and the scope of the devastation looks to be horrific. Here, an apartment building comes crashing down; it is unknown how many people were inside of it (warning: disturbing footage):

I lived through the 1994 6.7 Northridge, California quake, and as I’ve written, it felt like a locomotive was crashing through my bedroom. This one looks quite a bit worse:

I've seen plenty of earthquake coverage before, but I have to say these clips are among the most frightening I've ever viewed.
