The Most Dangerous Game is a seminal 1924 short story about humans hunting humans that has inspired countless books, streaming shows, and movies like The Hunger Games and Hard Target.
According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, however, the idea isn't just fiction: human safaris are exactly what's going on right now in his embattled country.
His accusation? That Russia is using drones to hunt down Ukrainian citizens to attack (and kill) them. They have no regard for human life, he charged, and said they appear to enjoy killing unarmed citizens in these human “safaris.”

A Russian drone deliberately hunted down a man selling vegetables and detonated right next to him. The Russians even admitted to the crime, showing zero regret and openly boasting about tormenting people. The man was wounded in the blast. Every single day, ordinary people in Kherson face these Russian "safaris."
Unbelievably, the man survived.
There is evil in our midst, Zelensky continued, and it must be exposed for all to witness:
The world must see this. It must see every piece of evidence that Russia has gone mad and that its soldiers take pleasure in killing and abusing civilians. Without pressure on Russia, the dismantling of its capacity for aggression, and real security guarantees, it is simply impossible to imagine the world being able to coexist with this evil. We must remain resolute in defending life. We must act and support life in ways that force Russia to seriously think about peace rather than expanding the range of its drones.
I often say I write about California because the cancer of progressivism spreads, and if people don’t pay attention to what’s happening here, they’ll soon find their own state overtaken. Zelensky says the same about evil — if it’s not stopped, it only gets worse.
This is not just about Ukraine. Russia’s campaign against human life must be stopped here in Ukraine before it spreads further. Finland and Kazakhstan, the Baltic states and Poland, the countries of the South Caucasus, Romania, and Moldova—all should work together to ensure real security guarantees and bring Russia’s war to an end. Peace is needed, which requires cooperation among everyone in the world who truly values peace. Thank you to everyone standing with Ukraine!

The victim and his wife were allegedly just trying to make a living when somebody decided he would be their day’s amusement.
The street vendor, identified as 52-year-old Yuriy, survived the near-fatal encounter, which Ukrainian authorities describe as part of a pattern of Russian drone attacks that track and target civilians — a practice they have dubbed "human safaris."
Speaking from a hospital bed, Yuriy told BBC that he and his wife were setting up their stall when he heard the drone buzzing nearby. His wife had run away, and the drone zeroed in on Yuriy, who pulled out vegetables to show that he did not have a weapon.
"It could see that I had tomatoes out, some cucumbers and eggplants laid out on the floor," Yuriy told BBC. "It even ducked under the umbrella when I was running away round the other side."

Yuri, 52, was sorting out garlic at his farmers market stand when a Russian drone started to chase him. It pursued Yuri around in circles and then struck him.

Worse, it’s not a one-off, according to Zelensky. Thousands have allegedly been killed and injured by this twisted method:
Ukraine's Prosecutor General's Office says authorities have opened 5,303 criminal cases into drone attacks on civilian targets in the Kherson region. The office says the attacks have killed 287 civilians and wounded 2,549 others, including 41 children.
It’s been a long, ugly war between the two countries; no one's hands are clean, and both sides have accused the other of atrocities and war crimes. If this latest “game” by the Russians is real, however, it shows that Putin’s soldiers have lost humanity.
And the rot always starts at the top.
