Dreaming Huge: Elon Musk Plans the Largest Building Ever Constructed — 15 Times Bigger Than Pentagon

SpaceX/Tesla CEO Elon Musk is known for thinking big, and that's made him a lot of money — he is far and away the world’s richest man, and for a brief period in June his net worth topped out at over a trillion dollars before dropping slightly due to market fluctuations. Now he’s only somewhere in the $800 billion neighborhood.

If you thought he had big ideas before, wait till you hear this one: he wants to build the world’s largest and most valuable building ever constructed, and we’re not talking by a little bit. It would be far larger than anything ever conceived:

His plan, which was previewed Thursday by SpaceX: To build a ginormous vertically integrated semiconductor manufacturing complex called Terafab that would take up 100 million square feet.

What does that mean? It would put the full scale of chip manufacturing under one roof so that instead of relying on an unpredictable global supply chain, the company could produce integrated circuits, memory modules, and more to consolidate all the processes to produce high-end chips for AI, smart cars, space exploration, and all the numerous other demands of the modern world as the technology explosion continues unabated.

The factory is a joint effort with Musk’s electric car company, Tesla.

"This facility will house the manufacturing, packaging and testing of advanced logic and memory devices," SpaceX said in a press release Thursday. "Terafab will produce chips optimized for edge computing and inference for use in hardware like Tesla’s Optimus robots and self-driving Cybercabs, along with high-power chips designed for operating SpaceX’s space-based data centers."

To give you an idea of just how huge 100 million square feet is, imagine the Pentagon, one of the nation’s largest buildings at 6.6 million square feet, and times it by 15:

Currently, the owner of the World's Largest Building title belongs to China, which sports the New Century Global Center in Chengdu, which is a relatively puny 18.9 million square feet.

Terafab would come with a hefty price tag: an estimated $16.8 billion. In other words, lunch money for Elon.

Former LA mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt pointed out that this could have been built in the Socialist Republic of California, but the progressives, led by disastrous Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom, drove Musk out:

Musk is everything the Democratic Socialists are not — he wants to make things better, and not go backwards and reverse progress like they want to do. His mindset is exactly what made America great: think big, don’t feel guilty for the country’s success, and always push forward.

This project is ridiculously ambitious, yet if there’s anyone who could pull it off, I’m betting on Elon.
