I can’t lie, I didn’t use to pay a whole lot of attention to the Department of the Interior. If you knew that Deb Haaland was the secretary under Biden, you got me beat.
But President Trump’s pick for the job, former North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, has been making headlines on a regular basis, many highlighting his efforts to beautify the nation’s capital in preparation for America’s 250th birthday, a Trump priority.
Now, he’s cutting the fat at the department and nuking partnerships with a whole range of entities that undermine American pride and work against our interests. Frankly, it infuriates me that my tax dollars were going to this garbage in the first place:
The Department of the Interior is cutting 43 partnerships with outside groups it says no longer align with the Trump administration’s priorities, eliminating more than $4 million in planned funding for programs tied to DEI, environmental justice and support services for illegal immigrants.
Led by Secretary Doug Burgum, the department determined the agreements were "operating in direct opposition" to its mission, according to a press release obtained exclusively by Fox News Digital.
Four million may be pocket change in Government World, but it’s still a lot of moolah:

Under @POTUS, @Interior is TERMINATING partnerships that don’t align with our mission. This recent review saved $4 MILLION, and we won't stop until ALL taxpayer dollars deliver real results for the American people!https://t.co/CYKtxAzWiN

A number of partnerships are getting the axe, but why in the world was the federal government in business with groups that sue the administration in the first place? Emphasis mine:
Another group on the department's list was The Cultural Landscape Foundation, which it said has a master cooperative agreement with the NPS "to conduct a variety of educational and cultural support activities." The organization has opposed several administration initiatives, including suing over changes at the Kennedy Center, criticizing plans for a White House ballroom and highlighting cultural landscapes and historic sites it says are threatened by administration actions through its Landslide 2026: Erasing American History initiative.
The list of woke programs is eye-opening: an environmental group that advocates a "total phase out of fossil fuels," another that brings DEI programs to national parks, and another that gives instructions on avoiding getting picked up by ICE. What does that have to do with national parks and natural resources, you might wonder?
This is the mission the Interior Department should be focusing on (and Burgum, to his credit, is) — not trying to spread woke indoctrination to the American public.
Decline was a choice.
