The Feds Clean Up What Walz Didn't: First 'Most Wanted Fraudster' Arrested in Minnesota

The scale of fraud that took place in Gov. Tim Walz’s Minnesota became clearer and clearer in 2025-2026 as investigations by Congress and independent reporters kept uncovering obvious grift taking place — like the infamous “Quality Learing Center” — right in front of the Gopher State leaders’ noses.

Nutrition programs like Feeding Our Future, a non-profit that allegedly defrauded two federal USDA child‑nutrition programs administered by the state Department of Education, were revealed to be personal piggy banks for scammers, many of them (but by no means all) of Somali descent, who stole hundreds of millions from social services efforts.

On Thursday, FBI Director Kash Patel announced the creation of the agency's “Most Wanted Fraudsters” list, and less than a week later, they already have their first suspect in custody:

CASE UPDATE from @FBIMinneapolis: Man Surrenders for Role in Feeding Our Future Fraud Scheme

Said Abdullahi Ereg was indicted on June 24, 2024, for his role in the Feeding Our Future fraud scheme, including conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud, and money laundering. Ereg surrendered peacefully to the FBI.

This is the first ever arrest of a “Most Wanted Fraudster” since the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud released the Most Wanted Fraudsters list last week. @WHFraudTF

CONSEQUENCES, FINALLY: 'Not Above the Law': Vance Smacks Walz, Ellison With DOJ Criminal Fraud Referral

Huzzah: Thanks to VP JD Vance, the FBI Now Has a List of 10 Most Wanted Fraudsters

This Ereg guy is allegedly a real peach, stealing money meant to feed kids and using it to buy cars, houses, and living la vida loca:

Ereg faces federal charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud and money laundering, and is accused of taking more than $4.2 million in Federal Child Nutrition Program payments meant to serve hungry children.

Between April 2020 and April 2021, he allegedly claimed to have served over 1.4 million meals to children in need, but instead used the funds to finance a lavish lifestyle.

And he was hardly alone:

More than 70 people were charged in the $250 million Feeding Our Future scandal. The ringleader, Aimee Bock, orchestrated a scheme in which dozens of people diverted government money meant to feed hungry children. She was sentenced to more than 40 years in prison.

His life may get more loca, but not in the way he was envisioning:

IN CUSTODY: Said Abdullahi Ereg – the FIRST EVER arrest of a “Most Wanted Fraudsters” since the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud released our Most Wanted Fraudsters list last week. Ereg just landed in Minneapolis and was taken into custody after turning himself in. He has been wanted on federal charges since 2024.

Ereg allegedly stole over $4 million from the Federal Child Nutrition Program in Minneapolis during the COVID-19 pandemic from 2020-2021. He allegedly falsely claimed to have served meals to children in need, claiming fake reimbursements from the government, and then laundered the money through foreign accounts to fund a lavish lifestyle. He is charged with Conspiracy to Commit Wire Fraud, Wire Fraud, and Money Laundering.

When @VP Vance led the way for the Most Wanted Fraudsters list through the @WhiteHouse @WHFraudTF – this was exactly the righteous goal the Task Force had in mind – to bring to justice all those who have stolen money from hardworking American taxpayers. This historic result is only the beginning - and let it be a message to any fraudster who takes advantage of America, this team will find you. @DAGToddBlanche @FBIMinneapolis

Walz, radical Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, and Rep. Ilhan Omar (MN-05) ignored the obvious irregularities that independent journalist Nick Shirley and others uncovered in mere minutes, so now the feds have to clean up for them. As CNN anchor Dana Bash once said when the Biden administration was in power, “the adults are back in the room.”

This time, it’s true.
