Unbelievable: USC Cancels CA Gubernatorial Debate Because Not Enough 'Candidates of Color' Qualified

The Democrats love to go on about “dangers to Democracy.” This, even as they shredded the California state constitution to get the gerrymandering Proposition 50 on the ballot, refuse to pass a federal act that would require voters to show an ID (a bill with overwhelming public approval), and are keen on turning “election day” into a month-long affair.

Now, in the Golden State, they can’t even be bothered to hold a crucial gubernatorial debate because the event failed to check off all the correct woke boxes. You see, not enough candidates of color qualified, and so that must be racist.

They’ll just take their ball and go home:

The University of Southern California canceled its Tuesday gubernatorial debate after facing fiery criticism about excluding every gubernatorial candidate of color.

Although the university defended the methodology used to determine who was invited to participate in the forum, they canceled the debate less than 24 hours before it was set to take place because of the mounting controversy.

“We recognize that concerns about the selection criteria for tomorrow’s gubernatorial debate have created a significant distraction from the issues that matter to voters,” the university said in a statement to The Times. “Unfortunately, USC and [debate co-sponsor] KABC have not been able to reach an agreement on expanding the number of candidates at tomorrow’s debate. As a result, USC has made the difficult decision to cancel tomorrow’s debate and will look for other opportunities to educate voters on the candidates and issues.”

The thing is, no candidates were disqualified because of their color or their gender — they didn’t make the cut because they’re didn't meet the USC “viability" criteria, a combination of polls and fundraising numbers. It’s something Democrats in this state often have trouble comprehending: reality.

A number of those who didn’t make the grade urged their fellow candidates to boycott the event, setting off the firestorm.

GOP candidate Steve Hilton, who is leading the race in many polls, was disgusted:

But he’s not just firing off angry tweets, he’s asking the Department of Education to take action and hit ‘em where it hurts: in the wallet. Suspend it all, Hilton argued:

I would suspect that many of the Democrats are quite satisfied with this outcome, because now the people don’t get to see how flawed some of them are. Former Rep. Katie Porter is toxic and unpleasant, whenever Rep. Eric Swalwell (CA-14) opens his mouth, something juvenile comes out of it, and billionaire Tom Steyer doesn’t even pay attention to politics in the state he’s running in. San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan may have been capable of a good performance, but now we won't know, will we?

What they didn’t want to do was give Steve Hilton and fellow Republican, Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco, who is also doing well in the polls, a chance to shine. Because “Democracy Dies in Darkness” and all that.

Editor’s Note: Gavin Newsom, Karen Bass, and the “progressives” are ruining California.
