The race to replace failed Gov. Gavin Newsom has heated up in California, with two Republicans, Fox News personality/author Steve Hilton and Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco, surprisingly leading in early polling. I say, surprisingly, because the state has become so blue that they’d reject a candidate with an "R" beside his name even if he promised every resident a million dollars.
There was one Democrat who was flying high in 2025, however: former Rep. Katie Porter, who, despite getting shellacked by a character as toxic as herself, Adam Schiff, in the ‘24 Senate race, was pulling in the top numbers. Several videos, however — including one where she abused a reporter for asking routine questions, and another where she treated staffers like sub-humans — killed her momentum.
Evidently, she thinks talking dirty will get her groove back. Speaking at the California Democratic Convention in San Francisco on Saturday, she showed that her uplifting message about stopping the decline of California mostly consisted of hurling obscenities at the president of the United States.

She brought out her whiteboard, which has become a staple prop for her, but instead of writing out policies or inspiring messages, she simply wrote "you-know-what Trump" on it.

Those were the words the former congresswoman — whose polling has plummeted since videos leaked of her cursing out a staffer and melting down in a TV interview — displayed on a mini whiteboard Saturday and shouted at hundreds of people at the California Democratic Convention in San Francisco.
When you consider her resumé — her ex-husband accused her of pouring scalding potatoes on his head during an argument — perhaps this vulgar display shouldn’t be at all surprising.

Of course, she had more profanity to spew at Saturday’s speech:
I’m running for governor, because I’m willing and ready to get s*** done.
I’m not allergic to swear words, and I used to have to give my daughter a dollar for every one that slipped out of my mouth. However, I don’t think “screw the other guy” is a compelling message. At least Republicans were funny and creative with their “Let’s Go, Brandon!” chants; it was a far better look than a crowd just screaming obscenities.
Katie Porter continues to show that she is a toxic divider with no real plan to fix California. Unfortunately, as voters in the state have shown repeatedly, that's not necessarily enough to stop them from filling out the circle next to her name when the primary vote goes down on June 2.
