Donald Trump spoke from the White House Tuesday at the swearing-in ceremony for new Department of Homeland Security head Markwayne Mullin, and he told reporters that Iran has agreed to give up its nuclear weapons dreams.

He said it rather casually, but that would be significant news indeed. “It [the potential end of the conflict] starts with no nuclear weapons, and they've agreed to that, he said, adding: “There won't be any nuclear weapons.”

Watch:

He clarified that “they're not going to have enrichment” either.

It’s unclear who the president has been negotiating with, but many pundits theorize it’s Iran’s Parliament speaker, Mohammad Baqher Ghalibaf.

The president also talked about ending the hostilities with Iran, and noted that he did not want to obliterate their power facilities if he didn’t have to:

Look, if we can end this without more lives being down, without knocking out $10 billion electric plants, that are brand new, and the apple of their eye, [we] might like to be able to do that, you know?

[...]

Look, I hate to say that we're in a very good bargaining position, and I hate to say that they're defenseless, because, you know, until that last missile is fired, they have a little power, but we are in about the best bargaining position.

We're way ahead of schedule. And again, they have no Navy, and they have no Air Force, and they have no missile protection, and most of their missiles are gone. Most of their launches we've killed. You know, we've killed about 82% of their launchers. So even if they had a missile, they can't launch it.

We’ve basically already won, he asserted:

The above tweet continues:

It’s like we’re not winning a war where they have no navy and they have no air force, and they have no nothing. And we literally have planes flying over Tehran and other parts of their country. They can’t do a thing about it. For instance, if I want to take down that power plant, that very big, powerful power plant, they can’t do a thing about it. It’s like, take me. That’s all they can do. And yet, if you read The New York Times or if you watch ABC fake news or NBC fake news, you’d say it’s a close battle. It’s not a close battle. They’re totally defeated.

But wait, there’s more! Trump also said the Iranians gave him a “big present” Monday night. He wouldn’t say what it was, but indicated it was worth a lot of money and involved oil and gas:

If it proves true that Iran is willing to give up its fanatical quest to acquire a nuclear weapon, the world would be a far safer place. They’re not exactly known as the most honest brokers, of course. Only time can give us the final answer.

Editor's Note: For decades, former presidents have been all talk and no action. Now, Donald Trump is eliminating the threat from Iran once and for all.
