The Austin Police Department released bodycam footage Thursday from police officers who shot and killed a deranged shooter during an Austin, Texas, attack that left two people dead, plus the gunman, and injured dozens on March 1.
Law enforcement has not formally named the tragedy as an act of terror, but numerous signs point in that direction, considering he was a Senegalese Immigrant, wore a “property of Allah” shirt with a T-shirt featuring an Iranian flag beneath, a Quran was found in his car, and the attack occurred shortly after the U.S. launched Operation Epic Fury against Iran.
The two videos in this post are chaotic and violent, so be prepared for disturbing content if you decide to watch them.
Austin Police released bodycam footage from the takedown of Ndiaga Diagne, a naturalized U.S. citizen from Senegal who opened fire at a bar Sunday, killing 3 and wounding 19.

In the first video, you can hear someone, presumably an officer, yelling, “Down! Everybody down!” as he frantically searches for the killer, now identified as 53-year-old Ndiaga Diagne. He fired off multiple rounds, but I was unable to clearly see the assailant he was shooting at.
In the second video, from another officer, you can definitely see officers firing and then Diagne on the ground after he’s been hit. A long gun lies nearby. “Stop moving! Stop moving!” the officer yells. “Stop bleep moving!”

Meanwhile, many were worried that leftist Travis County DA José Garza would haul the heroes in front of a grand jury, because he put a policy in place in 2021 that requires all officers involved in shootings be subject to that. However, Garza announced on Thursday that he had no plans to go through with such an action or press charges:
NEW: Travis County DA Jose Garza has just issued a letter to the police department further clarifying his position that his office is closing its review of officers’ actions in a mass shooting and “no action will be taken.” pic.twitter.com/L7jNeXYxRI

Garza wrote that their use of force was justified, as if that weren’t already obvious:
The Travis County District Attorney’s Office’s Civil Rights Unit conducted a thorough review of the incident, including video evidence, scene investigation, and collaboration with the APD’s Special Investigations Unit. The review concluded that the officers were responding to an active mass casualty situation and that the shooter was using unlawful deadly force. Based on the findings, the review is closed, and no action will be taken against the officers.
To be fair to the DA, even though he has a history of coddling criminals and not caring about the victims, he did say in an earlier statement that “These officers are heroes, and it should go without saying that my office is not seeking any charges and would not seek charges. The accounts to the contrary are false ... and are being peddled for obvious political purposes.”
The fact that so many believed he would tells you all you need to know about him, however.
The bodycam footage shows that the officers acted quickly and bravely and probably saved numerous lives. They are heroes.
