Assata Shakur, once also known as JoAnne Deborah Chesimard, was the head of the Black Liberation Army. In 1977, she was convicted of first-degree murder in the killing of a New Jersey state trooper. Her legacy also includes numerous bank robberies, kidnappings, and armed robbery charges, most of which she walked away from scot-free until the murder conviction. She escaped the New Jersey Corrections Institute for Women and fled to Cuba, where then-President Fidel Castro granted her asylum in 1984.
Although she was on the FBI’s Most Wanted Terrorists List, she was able to live out her life under the communist regime until she died Thursday at the age of 78.
This young man never got to live that long:
This is NJ State Trooper, Werner Foerster.

He was murdered by Joanne Chesimard (Assata Shakur) in 1973.

If you’re the Chicago Teachers Union, do you take the advice in the post above to “remember him, today?” No, you lionize the convicted murderer and mourn her death even though she escaped justice for decades. Notice the brutal Community Note:
Rest in Power, Rest in Peace, Assata Shakur. 🕊️

Today we honor the life and legacy of a revolutionary fighter, a fierce writer, a revered elder of Black liberation, and a leader of freedom whose spirit continues to live in our struggle.
Assata refused to be silenced. She taught… pic.twitter.com/SsoIg7MU8w
“Assata refused to be silenced,“ the tweet continued. No comment on whether the gun that killed an American law enforcement officer was silenced. They continue:
She taught us that “It is our duty to fight for our freedom. It is our duty to win. We must love each other and support each other. We have nothing to lose but our chains.”
Stunning Marxist, inflammatory race-war rhetoric for a union that, from its title, one would think cares about teaching, and you know, kids. The National Police Association posted a strong (disgusted) reaction to X:
The Chicago Teachers Union honors Joanne Chesimard (Assata Shakur) without mentioning she was convicted of the murder of New Jersey State Police Trooper Werner Foerster in 1973. He was 34 years old and left behind a wife and 3-year-old son. Rest in Peace Trooper Foerster.

Kids, What Kids? CA Teachers Union Pours Millions Into Gavin Newsom's Radical Redistricting Effort
I must have missed the memo… when did it become acceptable for unions supposedly working on behalf of educators to become full-on leftist radicals? What does that have to do with our children? Lest we forget, teachers' unions were at the forefront of the effort to keep our kids locked up during COVID and tried as hard as they could to get those lockdowns and totalitarian edicts extended for as long as possible.
In June, meanwhile, CTU President Stacy Davis Gates said the union "thinks your children are its children."
WATCH: Chicago Teachers Union Head Turns Into a Rambling Mess When Confronted With Her Hypocrisy
That teachers' unions of all things have become hotbeds of extremism is shocking. We have extremist propagandists like American Federation of Teachers (AFT) President Randi Weingarten endlessly preaching socialist dogma while rarely mentioning kids and how we could better serve them.
Teachers' unions keep proving over and over again that they are not our friends—and are not allies for the children of America. With this noxious posting celebrating a convicted murderer, they have proved that in spades once again.
