There’s been a new spectator sport on your television sets since January, and it’s highly enjoyable to watch. Namely, clueless Democrat congresscritters aggressively question Trump administration officials and then get their proverbial butts handed to them on a seemingly weekly basis. It's often worth a beverage and some popcorn.
The Dems fire off insults, ask slanted questions where they present misinformation, then furiously interrupt when the GOP official tries to actually answer the question.
The latest to go to battle were Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and New York Dem Rep. Jerry Nadler, often “affectionately” dubbed “the Penguin,” who argued over congestion pricing and subway safety Wednesday.
Nadler immediately said that Duffy was “lying” about subway safety, but then was turned into a babbling mess when Duffy shot back hard. Nadler had zero interest in the secretary’s points:
Secretary Duffy, as recently as last week, you were again attacked the MTA [New York City’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority], claiming that there's a surge in subway assaults, and accusing the agency of withholding information. But many of your statements misrepresent the facts and ignore documentation already provided to your department. I want to address some of those claims directly.
First, are you aware that major crime in the transit system, including assaults, is down three percent since last year and down eight percent since 2019?
Duffy attempted to answer, but Nadler jumped in with the ole, “that’s a yes or no question!" gambit. Duffy wasn’t having it:
Well, no, that's wrong. The assaults that we've seen are up 60% with MTA in the systems since 2019.
Nadler wasn’t interested in facts:
NADLER: Why do you continue to ignore this and lie about this in your public comments?
DUFFY: Well, my question, why do you continue to lie about people being led on fire in subways or pushed in front of trains? You should be fighting to make sure your subways are safe? Our subways. I want people to ride subways. Let's make subway safe.
NADLER [frantically but unsuccessfully trying to regain control]: Reclaiming my time!

I have no problem with hard questioning of government officials by Congress, but there’s a right way and a wrong way to do it. Democrats keep exposing themselves and watching Trump administration folks run circles around them. If you want to see someone doing it right, watch Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) interrogate just about anyone.
Duffy and Nadler continued their back and forth, with Nadler continuing to claim that “statistics” showed people are safe in the NYC subway. As anyone can tell you, statistics don’t always tell the whole story, and there’s plenty of evidence that people are afraid to go down there because of multiple horrific crimes—but Nadler is so out of touch with regular Americans that he can’t see that.
DUFFY: …if you're gonna force people into a subway, make sure it's safe. Very safe.
NADLER: It's safe. I gave you the statistics. I gave you the stats.
Nadler gives us yet another example of why the Democrats are out of power and floundering like fish on a boat deck.
