Elderly Hostage Describes Hellish Ordeal, CNN Immediately Lauds Hamas Hospitality in Prisoner Tunnels

An Israeli grandmother taken hostage by Hamas during their October 7 surprise attack was freed on Monday along with another elderly Israeli woman, and on Tuesday, she described her hellish ordeal at the hands of the terrorists. As others around her were massacred, set on fire, and defaced at her kibbutz near Gaza, Yocheved Lifshitz was ripped from her home, spirited away, and hidden in tunnels for weeks:

Kibbutz resident Yocheved Lifshitz, one of an estimated 220 hostages taken violently by Hamas on October 7, endured a nightmarish two weeks as a prisoner in what she called a “spider’s web” of tunnels underneath the Gaza Strip before being released late Monday with another woman, 79-year-old Nurit Cooper.

“I’ve been through hell,” Lifshitz said, nearly whispering while talking to reporters at Ichilov hospital in Tel Aviv.

“They went rampant in our kibbutz,” she said of the terrorists who invaded her home at the Nir Oz kibbutz in southern Israel.

Although many news outlets tried to proclaim that the kidnappers treated Lifshitz well, others pointed to some of the more brutal things they did to the 85-year-old grandmother. Watch her agonized face as she speaks:

From the above tweet:

They beat me, laid me on a motorcycle and rode through the fields with me towards Gaza. They brought me to the tunnels; we walked kilometers underground. They beat me in the ribs, even with sticks.

Lifshitz continued:

“They blew up the electronic fence, that special fence that cost 2.5 billion dollars to build but didn’t help with anything,” Lifshitz added. “Masses mobbed our homes. They beat people, took some hostage. They didn’t distinguish between young and elderly, it was very painful.”

She described how abductors grabbed and laid her out on a motorcycle before speeding off with her through thick bushes. Lifshitz said she was beaten with sticks ribs [sic] during the ride: “The young men hit me on the way. They didn’t break my ribs but it was painful and I had difficulty breathing.”

Despite this savagery and all the horrific reports that have come out since the terror attacks, many mainstream news outlets are trying to paint the terrorists in a sympathetic light, noting that Lifshitz said she was treated humanely once ensconced in the Hamas tunnels. Doesn't this sound nice, for instance:

The 85-year-old woman said that when she and the other captives she was with were first taken into the Hamas tunnels, "they said they believe the Quran and they will not harm us."

She said a doctor was present and would visit the hostages every few days, bringing required medications, and that Hamas members treated their prisoners "gently" over the two weeks she was held.

When asked why she had shaken the hand of one of her captors, Lifshitz said they "met all our needs. They seemed ready for this. They prepared it for a long time and prepared all the needs that women and men need."

If all that were true, it would imply that Hamas is treating its captives a lot better than it treats the Palestinian people. However, let's take this with a grain of salt—they still have her husband, so of course she's going to be careful what she says lest she anger the captors, who might then take their wrath out on her imprisoned spouse.

And let's also be real, just because a few hostages have been released in good condition recently doesn't mean they're all being treated well. In fact, based on the atrocities we saw during the initial attack, it's reasonable to assume that some—if not most—of the estimated 200 hostages left are being treated extremely badly.

But since Lifshitz is alive and doesn't appear to have been extensively tortured, that's good enough for the apologists over at CNN:

There was shampoo! See, they're just like us.

The reporter in the above video contrasted the level of supplies, food, and medicine that were available to those in the tunnels compared to what was available for those on the ground above, who were under threat of airstrikes. She concluded that Hamas had been preparing for hostages for quite some time.

But she kept obsessively coming back to feminine hygiene products for some reason, mentioning that the terrorists had helpfully kept lots on supply for their hostages, as if this somehow humanized them. Of course, many field medics claim that tampons can be used in dire emergencies to treat battle wounds and gunshots, and maybe that's why Hamas had a bunch of them around, not just because they're so loving and caring about their female hostages.

But even if keeping such products on hand is a sign of their humanity, wouldn't they be able to show their virtue a whole lot more powerfully by releasing the remaining freaking hostages? There's a newsflash for you, CNN.

This is one of a seemingly infinite number of news reports that try to make Hamas terrorists look sympathetic; it's nauseating. The reality is that no sympathy or mercy should be shown to people who beat elderly women with sticks and imprison them in tunnels. The media has been shaming themselves relentlessly with garbage like this since the very moment the horror attacks first unfolded.

Lucky for Yocheved Lifshitz, she survived this carnage. Many others were not so lucky.
