Democrat Infighting Takes Entertaining Turn As NYC Pol Accuses DSA of White Supremacy

If you are a conservative Republican, the infighting between what's left of mainstream Democrats and the ever-increasingly powerful Democratic Socialists of America has to be the most entertaining thing since President Jimmy Carter's redneck brother Billy. As democratic socialist candidates rack up primary victories all over the nation, they gain influence over the party as a whole. But they may have one problem: diversity.

Recently, Queens Borough President Donovan Richards, who is black, took to social media and observed that the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), in their zeal to simultaneously grow their membership and stamp out capitalism, tend to ignore minorities that might want to join the fight. On Sunday, he wrote on X, “White supremacy comes in all forms."

What started as a mishap was that a New York Times report focused on the uber-left wing of the Democrat Party that is so intent on the agenda that they overlook issues that are important to its black and Latino members.

Phara Souffrant Forrest, a DSA state assembly member in New York, complained that the story did not mention a certain black DSA member, but it was later discovered that she failed to read the entire story.

Another journalist had responded to her complaint, but it was too late. Richards had already whipped out the famous Malcolm X quote about white liberals,

“The white liberals are more dangerous than the conservatives; they lure the Negro, and as the Negro runs from the growling wolf, he flees into the open jaws of the ‘smiling’ fox.”

Even though the DSA has backed winning candidates like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14) and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, as well as recent Mamdani-backed House nominees like Darializa Avila Chevalier and Claire Valdez, both DSA members who took down incumbent Democrats in the June primary, the ironic fact that the DSA has a minority problem is delicious.

When people hear the term "democratic socialists," they usually think of purple-haired, nose-ringed college students. Well...not so much. Earlier this month, I wrote about exactly who DSA members are. A poll from 2021 revealed that many of them had college degrees, made more than $100,000 per year, and, the best part, 85 percent of them were white. Just four percent of DSA members were black. What? No diversity?

Donovan Richards has represented Queens for 13 years, serving eight years on the City Council, representing District 31, a more moderate area of the borough, and was elected Borough President in 2020. He is a liberal Democrat and endorsed Mamdani for mayor, but called him out weeks into his tenure after Mamdani proposed a 9.5 percent property tax increase that would include Richards' district, home to one of the largest blocs of black homeowners.

His relationship with Mamdani is illustrative of the current tug-of-war within the Democrat Party. He is a staunch advocate for homeownership in minority communities to increase generational wealth. But on the other side of that coin is top Mamdani advisor Cea Weaver, who has called homeownership “a weapon of white supremacy masquerading as "wealth-building public policy.”

Are DSA members white supremacists? Who knows, but just imagining them pointing at each other yelling "racist!" is, in the words of the great Rush Limbaugh, more fun than a human being should be allowed to have.
