Apparently Being Alive Was Optional Under Biden’s Student Loan Program

Every day, Americans learn in some new way what a disaster Joe Biden and his merry band of equally incompetent toadies were. From open borders to nearly every aspect of life filled with woke nonsense and rampant fraud at both the state and federal levels. Now we are learning just how much taxpayers were defrauded by way of the Department of Education and the student loan program.

During an interview on Monday with Fox Business Channel's Maria Bartiromo, Education Secretary Linda McMahon explained just how riddled with fraud the federal student loan was. She stated:

"I'm really proud of one of the things we've done, and that is we've just really totally revamped the FAFSA program, which is the application that students fill out for student aid as they are going to college. But as like many things in the government, we found there was a lot of fraud going on, that there were BOTS that were applying for these loans, there were ghost students, there were dead people who were getting these loans, et cetera. So, we really did enforce and tweak this entire system so that we have this real time fraud identity now."

Democrats will most certainly not like the way McMahon has "tweaked" the system. Now, when potential students go online to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), they will have to have a photo ID. McMahon went on to say that in 2025, the Department of Education prevented $1 billion from getting into the hands of fraudsters. McMahon added that "In the first two weeks of revamping this program this year, we've saved about $60 million."

The massive overhaul of the FAFSA program began in April of this year. In addition to the safeguards Secretary McMahon laid out, there is a one-time review of all previously submitted FAFSA applications for the 2026-27 school year using the new screening process.

The COVID-19 pandemic allowed for fraud of all kinds to flourish, and the Biden administration did little to curb it. They removed vital verification protections and diverted resources away from fraud prevention. Less than one percent of students were required to verify their identity after they had submitted FAFSA applications, which opened the door for not only BOTS and ghost students, but also sophisticated fraud rings.

The Department of Education has toughened up data sharing with the Social Security Administration to prevent funds from going to dead people, and resumed the screening of student aid records that will prevent overpayments, so that lifetime Pell Grant limits are enforced. They have also teamed up with the Department of Homeland Security to prevent illegal immigrants from receiving student aid funds.

It's one of the best arguments yet for shutting down the Department of Education.
