Beginning when I was in middle school in the late 70s, all the way through high school, whenever I brought home a Social Studies or American history book, I remember my dad thumbing through them. As a kid, I just thought, "silly old dad looking at my books." Now I know just how ahead of his time he was. More and more parents are discovering that public schools have become little more than indoctrination centers. Now, a new report leaves little doubt that is exactly what is happening.

The report put out by The Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting and Analysis (CAMERA) took a look at the Social Studies curriculum for the School District of Philadelphia (SDP). What they found is unsurprising, but should have every parent grabbing their kid and running. The report, which came out on Wednesday, cites alleged attacks on Western values and institutions. The three cardinal sins of the West appear to be "capitalism, racism, and settler colonialism." The chilling report describes the curriculum as "anti-racist" and "decolonizing." It goes on to say that teachers are encouraged to freely attack America, Zionism, and Israel.

So, what world events did the School District of Philadelphia deem not important enough to teach students? Basically, things that Western civilization is founded on, such as Ancient Greek and Roman history, Christian history, the Enlightenment, World War I, World War II, and the Holocaust. Those key events have been replaced by a concentration on settler colonialism, displacement, genocide, and "how indigenous people view concepts like land and time, and the fight to preserve their language and culture."
There is a unit critical of capitalism that gives an overarching message that it is a system that is "unjust," but fails to give communism the same treatment. There is the unit entitled, "What is Terrorism?" It presents several scenarios to define the word, which include Israelis killing Palestinian children, an attack on Monsanto by Indian farmers, and the 1998 U.S. missile attack in Sudan on a pharmaceutical plant. What's conveniently left out are notable Islamic terrorist attacks. The unit also ultimately steers students to predetermine a belief that the U.S. and Israel are sponsors of terrorism.

Another unsurprising but truly horrifying detail — one that speaks volumes — is the fact that many SDP teachers belong to a group called the Racial Justice Organizing Committee (RJOC). If the "racial justice" part doesn't raise red flags, the fact that this group began as a subcommittee to a caucus inside the teachers' union should. RJOC's projects include making a Black Lives Matter "Week of Action" a district-wide event and creating the district's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) office.

Is it any wonder that there are at least two generations of brainwashed anti-American, antisemitic young people who inhabit colleges and universities? The systematic indoctrination is beginning in Kindergarten and goes all the way through high school. By the time those students get to a college or university, they are ripe for the picking of leftist professors and staff on campus. How many more generations of students who have been programmed to hate America and capitalism, among other things, have to happen? People who are taught to hate the country and Western values in general are not going to defend either one.
The one thing the school district of Philadelphia is doing with its Social Studies curriculum is making yet another excellent argument for homeschooling.
