Authorities say that a fiery light rail crash overnight in South Phoenix has left two people dead, and one in serious condition. The entire B line is closed, as a result. Unfortunately, it's not the first time this has happened in 2025.
Details on how it happened are still scant, but here's what we know:
"Just before 1:45 a.m., first responders were dispatched to the area of Central Avenue and Baseline Road after a crash near a Valley Metro light rail station [in South Phoenix]," Phoenix CBS affiliate KTVK/KPHO reported. The report continued:
Police arrived and found two cars at the intersection, one of which was engulfed in fire, according to the Phoenix Police Department.
Crews with the Phoenix Fire Department responded and put out the fire. Two people were killed, and a third was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Central Avenue and Baseline Road are closed in all directions in the immediate area. Train service along the B line has also been temporarily suspended due to the investigation and damage to the light rail platform, according to Valley Metro. Riders traveling north are asked to use the bus stop near Central Avenue and Olympic Drive.
Phoenix's Fox10 photojournalist Rick Davis shared this video from the crash scene on Saturday:

As mentioned above, there was what appeared to be a similar accident just about two months ago on the light rail lines, which caused one section of the tracks to be closed for three days. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported in the Sept. conflagration.

While this latest incident is a tragedy with two lives lost, there must be this sidebar about it to ponder: Do readers need reminding that Arizona is currently led by radical leftist Democrat Gov. Katie Hobbs, who holds the record for the most vetoes in the Copper state's history? When I wrote that story in Aug. '24, she had only been in office two years.
Fast-forward to 2025. As my colleague Bob Hoge wrote in June, one of her more egregious veto stamps came on a bill from the majority-Republican legislature, which would have limited CCP-connected investments from China on land near military installations. Clearly, that is risking our nation's national security for political reasons.

The sooner we get a conservative (maybe Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ-5) in that gubernatorial seat, and Republicans in the Senate seats, the better—and safer— life will be for my fellow citizens of Arizona.
This is a developing story. RedState will provide more information as warranted.
