Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent appeared before the Senate Finance Committee on Thursday to talk about President Trump's reconciliation bill and how it affects taxes and economic policy overall.
On Wednesday, as we wrote, it was the House Ways and Means Committee's turn to hear from him and during part of the back-and-forth, the cabinet secretary had the misfortune of tangling with one Dem representative who accused him of sexism. He was also questioned by Stacey Plaskett, the delegate from the Virgin Islands, which my colleague Nick Arama described as an "encounter with a crazy aftermath":
Bessent politely tells her she's incorrect....Plaskett tries to scold him like he's a child. This isn't the way you're supposed to be responding to a Cabinet secretary.
"When you come to someone's house, you respect their rules. And in this house, we don't interrupt individuals. And you're not going to interrupt my time," she railed.
The "aftermath" came later on Wednesday afternoon, when Bessent reminded everyone who follows his X account what's truly important--getting the facts straight and out to the American people.
Take a look:
This is not my house—nor is it @StaceyPlaskett’s. This is the People’s House.

Bessent noted during his testimony over in the Senate that the nation's economic recovery has been nothing short of remarkable considering the president has only been in office since January. He also had a little fun with the well-worn term "TDS," telling the assembled senators that those on the other side of the aisle have concocted a new meaning for the acronym and not the one targeting Trump--but over their hatred of his administration's tariffs policy.

Tariff Derangement Syndrome is the latest form of TDS.

Democrats are so out of touch and partisan that they refuse to acknowledge the President’s inflation wins and would actually prefer to see numbers rise.
The truth is: We just saw the best inflation data since 2020 thanks… pic.twitter.com/87H060hNXI
As we wrote earlier in the week, it's got to be burning these Democrats up that not only haven't grocery and other core economic indicators skyrocketed, but inflation is dropping--a trend that started in April after month after month of hardships for American families under former President Biden.

At one point in the committee hearing, Sec. Bessent laid out what the One Big Beautiful Bill could do, with a helpful intro by GOP Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa:

Things did not get any better for Democrats on Thursday, who tried to play-act that the secretary was being evasive in his replies, as Senator Liz Warren (D-MA) quickly learned. Bessent had no trouble dispatching her foolishness, in the form of a question about proposed changes to Medicaid in the OBBB.

As we wrote in late April, Bessent was integral to the U.S. finalizing its negotiations with Ukraine on a rare minerals deal. The secretary nailed it when he said in a X post celebrating the accomplishment: "Economic security is national security."
On Thursday, he managed to leave more than one Democrat stunned by his direct statements, including Sen. Michael Bennet of Colorado, who needed to be reminded about who won the election last November, and how that mandate on the economy resonates with people--no matter how loudly he shouted:
.@SecScottBessent nukes @SenatorBennet on President Trump's tax cuts: "We had a referendum on November 5th on our economic policies. Your side lost." pic.twitter.com/MLQ3AbZ36P

Bessent said, "Your side lost...and a higher decibel level does not give your statement more veracity."
I'll tell you one thing, readers... I have not become tired of writing the following: This is what we voted for. And many other people are encouraged by what they're seeing and hearing out of the team the president has surrounded himself with this go 'round.
Editor's Note: President Trump is leading America into the "Golden Age" as Democrats try desperately to stop it.
