WATCH: CNN Anchors Accidentally Let Slip the Real Reason for the WHCD - and It's Not to Fete Free Speech

The White House Correspondents' Dinner (WHCD) is happening on Saturday, as we wrote earlier. The glamorous entrances for the favored few attendees of the (usually) yearly, gala for D.C. media were marred, however, by pro-Hamas protesters' heckling and jeering. The limo containing President Joe Biden was not excluded from the mocking mob.

Biden wasn't the only one forced to run the gauntlet of protesters, though. So were the throngs of media personalities and celebrity guests, according to this X post:

Those two groups of people don't automatically spring to mind at the same time, but there's a dirty little secret about the WHCD that the legacy media would rather keep us mere mortals in the dark about. Lucky for us, the co-anchors of the red carpet arrivals on CNN accidentally let it slip during the network's live broadcast. The internet, as they say, is forever.

Watch, as "CNN News Central" co-anchor Kate Bolduan begins by rambling on in a serious tone about the vaunted purpose of the night: celebrating the free press and its importance in safeguarding free speech, or something. She then makes the conversation a tie-in to her Max show, "5 Things." Curtis Houck of Newsbusters brings us the video:

Notice, though, that she can't quite get the message out. I'll get back to that point in a minute. Now, who's that with Bolduan? Why, she and co-anchor Harry Enten are hobnobbing with actress Rachel Brosnahan, the star of the award-winning "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" series.

Enten chimes in to shatter the mirage of the importance that the Correspondents' Dinner holds, eventually getting his co-host to admit why they love being there.

As I noted, Bolduan in particular can barely put a sentence together without giggling. There are a few reasons for that--and one is the real reason for the WHCD. It's the legacy media's reward for being good soldiers for the Left. They get to hang out with celebrities ... and based on the clip of CNN anchors, it's one of their prized chances to look down on the rest of us as the elites they believe they are--while clearly being overserved.

It brings to mind the debacles aired on CNN a few years ago, with Don Lemon and Anderson Cooper during New Year's Eve coverage in New York City's Times Square. Like then, the media's not exactly covering itself in glory here.
